⭐️⭐️⭐️Happy Birthday, United States Army!⭐️⭐️⭐️

On June 14, 1775 more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed the Continental Congress took a bold step. Facing rising tensions with Britain, they officially created the Continental Army to defend the colonies. General George Washington was soon appointed as its first commander.

This moment marked the birth of what would become the United States Army: the oldest branch of the U.S. military, built on courage, service, and sacrifice.

From the Revolutionary War to today, the Army has stood strong for nearly 250 years, defending our freedoms, protecting our people, and answering the call wherever and whenever needed.

Every soldier who has worn the uniform is part of that proud legacy a legacy forged in the fight for liberty and upheld through generations of dedication and honor.

So today, we say with pride and gratitude:

Happy Birthday, U.S. Army! Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to our nation. 🇺🇸

On this Armed Forces Day, we salute the brave men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force, those who stand watch over our freedoms with unwavering resolve.

Their hard work, sacrifice, and discipline are the backbone of our nation’s safety. While much of their service happens beyond the spotlight, its impact is immeasurable and essential to the peace we often take for granted.

To all who serve: we see you, we thank you, and we stand with you today and always.

*** HIGH SURF WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THURSDAY TO 11 AM PDT FRIDAY ***

Expect dangerously large breaking waves of 28 to 32 ft on beaches along Curry, Coos and Douglas Counties from 11 AM Thursday to 11 AM Friday.

***IMPACTS…Extremely large breaking waves will create very hazardous conditions along beaches and area shorelines. Waves will inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected. The highest breaking waves are expected Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night.

*** HIGH WIND WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 11 PM THURSDAY ***

Expect south winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected. Warning Includes - Curry County Coast and South Central Oregon Coast. This includes exposed areas along highway 101, and headlands. This includes Cape Blanco, the cities of Port Orford, Gold Beach, Sixes, and Denmark.

*** IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

If power is out do not call 911 to report it. Please call your electrical provider. Use 911 only in the event of an emergency.
