🔎 How to Tell a Scam
1. Too Good to Be True
• Promises of quick money, guaranteed returns, or “exclusive” opportunities.
• Example: “Invest $500 today, get $5,000 by next week!”
2. Pressure & Urgency
• Scammers often say “act now or lose your chance” to stop you from thinking.
• Example: “This offer expires in 10 minutes!”
3. Unusual Payment Methods
• Requests for gift cards, crypto, wire transfers, or cash apps.
• Real businesses rarely ask for these.
4. Poor Communication
• Bad grammar, odd spelling, generic greetings (“Dear Customer”).
• Emails or calls from unofficial addresses/domains.
5. Requests for Personal Information
• Asking for passwords, Social Security numbers, or bank details by phone/email.
• Legit companies don’t do this.
6. Spoofing / Fake Lookalikes
• Fake websites or phone numbers that look almost like real ones.
• Always double-check the URL or caller ID.

🛡 How to Avoid Scams
1. Pause Before Acting
• Don’t rush into sending money or info—take time to verify.
2. Verify the Source
• Call the company back using the official number on their website.
• For emails, check sender domain carefully.
3. Use Secure Payments
• Pay with credit cards, which offer fraud protection.
• Avoid gift cards, wires, or crypto for strangers.
4. Look for Reviews & Red Flags
• Search the company name with words like “scam,” “complaint,” “reviews.”
5. Enable Security Tools
• Use spam filters, antivirus, and two-factor authentication on accounts.
6. Trust Your Gut
• If it feels off or too good to be true, it probably is.
7. Report Scams
• In the U.S., report to FTC (ftc.gov/complaint) or local authorities.
• In Uganda or elsewhere, report to local cybercrime police units.
