I've always wanted to do one of these elaborate piping cakes. It's not quite Lambeth, so I'll say "elaborate piping " cake. It was a lot of fun, but also not my style as someone who doesn't like waste. There were way too many piping bags and batches of icing used for my liking, but I'm glad I gave it a try. Also props to the bakers who pipe vertically, those frames were very interesting to pipe!

I've been making birthday cakes for my children for fifteen years, and today marks the first time I have been asked to duplicate a cake! My oldest had a giant, 4-tier Harry Potter cake years ago. My youngest finally discovered Harry Potter and decided he had to have The Monster Book of Monsters for his cake this year, and that also happened to be one of the tiers of my oldest's cake years ago. According to my youngest, this cake is "much cooler".

I truly never realized that making my oldest's first birthday cake would transform into this huge family tradition. I had just wanted to make a cute cake, and figured I could pull something off. The thought occurred to me today that I only have a few more years of this left because it'd be weird for me to keep making him cakes once he's an adult, right? Here is his 15th cake, a Captain Rex helmet.

Our house was rocked when Wednesday came out. The whole house watched the show, but my daughter really fell in love with it. She'd make her hand look like Thing and walk around the house pretending she was Wednesday. It only seemed fitting to make her a Wednesday cake, blood red velvet, of course. Everything is handmade except for Thing, who was a present, so she'd have a keepsake to complete her outfit.

I'm always humbled around days I usually make cakes. I don't know if it's good or bad check-ins, but my page sends off notifications of views all day, and it makes me smile. Sorry to disappoint this year, but I didn't make a birthday cake🤷‍♀️. I love decorating cakes, but I just don't eat them often. My family has been super busy the last week trying to adjust to school, and then canning all our garden treasures. I just didn't have the time, and it seemed silly to rush to make one that I wasn't going to eat. It's back to school time, and that means cakes! This was the first year I officially had three cakes to make (even though I've made my youngest a cake while we've all been home during covid). Last birthday of the birthday season! This cake was supposed to be a tiered cake, BUT my hand mixer died while I was making the icing. My wonderful husband ran out at 8 at night to buy me a new one, but I had lost a little too much decorating time, and decided the next day to just go with the one cake. Maybe that second tier will show up for her Last Day of School cake? When we watched Encanto I immediately saw Mirabel's skirt and thought that would be such a fun cake to make! When my daughter asked for an Encanto cake I saw my chance to make it a reality, so this is my simplified version of Mirabel's skirt.

My youngest loves anything Jurassic Park, and asked for a cake with all of his favorites. I was able to add most of them. He wanted the gyrospheres and dinosaur field from Jurassic World, and the "water dinosaur" from Jurassic World, as well as the T-rex jeep scene from the original Jurassic Park. All of the dinosaurs, minus the T-rex are made out of chocolate. Everything on the cake is edible except for the fence wires, the trees and the t-rex.

It's birthday season again!! This year my oldest asked for a Ghostbuster cake (then promptly forgot) and just wanted "something cool". So I made a Ghostbuster trap and attempted an isomalt Slimer.
