Sparkle Media Group Established in Sept. 2012, Sparkle Media Group is a student-managed intercampus media organisation with headquarters in Adekunle Ajasin University. (AAUA)

Dear reader, welcome to Sparkle. In the 21st century where the speeds of our actions are dictated by the speed of our information reception, it is essential that we get to know of issues as they happen, and as they develop. For students and young people, this is imperative. Here at Sparkle, we believe in the power of the pen to bring about change and intellectual advancement, hence our motto: “…mi

ghtier than the sword”. We strive not just to throw the issues/events at our readers but also to analyse these issues, provide comments and opinions, and also give room for our readers (including you!) to have their say. We aspire to provide inspiration to our readers too, with our Motivationals, while at the same time creating an international network of students to exchange ideas and thoughts of mutual issues. Most importantly, we do this as students learning in various institutions across the country, honing our skills and delivering the best of news, features, opinions and lots more. What makes Sparkle different? Sparkle has a large network of correspondents and contributors from several universities and polytechnics in Nigeria. Our vast information source ensures that we are fast becoming the leading student media group in the country. And thanks to the efforts of Sparkle correspondents and contributors, the maiden edition of the annual Sparkle magazine will be launched in the last quater of this year. How old are we? Just nine months old. And we are proud of our achievements. Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General once rightly said “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” This sums up our goal at Sparkle: to inform and educate and entertain for progress and enlightenment. So, dear reader, welcome to the world of Sparkle, welcome to the world of 21st century media practitioner.

*What hope beckons for AAUAITES?*

This is sacred question that has been yearning for an undiluted answer in our minds, having wasted numerous days at home idle, having lost count of meetings held between management and ASUU and having had our hopes been dashed countless times. It would be an understatement to say this lingering strike being embarked upon by ASUU chapter of AAUA has been utterly disadvantageous to AAUAITES.

Without any iota of doubt, the purported promise said to have been made by the V.C last week that the prolonging strike would be called off on Friday made the faces of students lively with smiles and everyone was basking in euphoria of the assurance of the V.C. The much awaited Friday came and the strike continued, without indication whatsoever that it would be called off even after the week ran out, this seems to have added salt to the injuries of AAUITES.

The SUG on their own part have refused to issue a statement as regards the Friday promise to allay the despair the students are into, this same promise they said made them cancel their ultimatum and the plan to take the train "centre stage" hasn't been honoured yet they are indifferent , should we say the union is still engrossed with the joy of the newly purchased bus courtesy of the management or what? This is a question only their consciences can do justice to.

Nevertheless, the hope of resuming back to school is being dashed as time keeps running, we can't afford to lose interest in our chosen fields owing to strike. We hereby appeal to the three bodies involved to do all they can as soon as possible this week to ensure students are back on campus.

*21st Century University: Reality or Fluke*

Sitting in the heart of Akungba-Akoko, Adekunle Ajasin University, the ever busy 21st century Citadel lies hopelessly with no hope of rising soon, thanks to the strike caused by Non payment of ASUU AAUA salary.

Over two months now and still counting, hopes of students have been dashed, the 21st century University they envisioned is crumbling right before them or what else could be said about this unending strike at the verge of tarnishing the long built good image about the university. Little Wonder why people are jumping into conclusions that being called 21st century university is a mistake.

Students could not sit back and watch their lives being delayed. The Student Union Came with their centre stage Drama and Ultimatum. started the twitter appeals to the Management, Government and ASUU to resolve their issues.

Thankfully, it yielded results as the Students' Union released a press statement on 9th of September that the Vice Chancellor promised resumption on the next Friday. With this, we all beemed with smiles as we had faith in the vice chancellor's words.

Aauites could not hide their disappointment as Friday came and went by but no hope of resuming sooner. What Could be done? The Students' Union has cancelled The centre-stage-drama. ASUU is bent on STRIKE - they could not be blamed, they Have children too. ODSG - we know there is recession in the country's economy, but please find a way out!

Quantifiable number of our 21st century Female students are now Pregnant!!!!!

We are not asking for much, All we are saying is that *''Our 21st century University Properly Called, should not become A 21st Century Mistakenly Called''*
