Did you watch Bad Monkey this week? I know it has nothing to do with costumes but my fave scene of the whole series is Bonnie / Plover swimming with the manatee in Crystal Springs! I love manatees!

CAITLIN AND SIMON
Bad Monkey had so many oddball characters to dress and one of the most fun was CAITLIN played by Charlotte Lawrence. I met Charlotte when she was young and would come to work with her mom on Cougertown. She was so polite and sweet as a little girl and now she is equally professional and collaborative as a grown up actor. Both she and her mom have excellent taste and wear clothes so well it’s a dream to work with them. We saw CAITLINs ex-drug addict, Christian mega church, character as a throwback Y2K girl... She is definitely way cooler than her husband SIMON. She let us borrow one of her personal vintage t’s for a costume she wore in episode 2 and it was perfect.

who played SIMON was such a good sport! We knew we found his character when he put on the hat. You didn’t get to see his amazing slides with the Prayer Hands on screen but those were also iconic.
Tune in tonight… it’s going to be a great episode!

Who’s excited for another episode of Bad Monkey?!? Here’s some pics of “the Bad Monkey” (who wasn’t bad at all) as well as some other animal related pics. Seeing manatees when we were in a base camp near water was one of the highlights of the show for me… it was so surreal. 1&2.Monkeys on my back 3. Monkey doing a diaper fitting (the diaper costume was from the book… we all wanted to put clothes on Crystal!) 4&5. Key deer on set … real and fake 6&7. Manatees in Basecamp. 8&9. Alligator I saw lurking near set. 10. Famous 6 toed cat at the Hemingway house. 11. Turtle near Basecamp 12. Random chicken in a bar in Key West 13. Crystal had a few things made for her personal collection :)

The digital sketches were done before we met the actors but after production had found the location for YANCY’s house… we wanted to make sure Vince’s character YANCY was visually connected to his environment. The beautiful Florida locations were a huge part of the storyline…A big shout out to , our producing director, who had such a vision for color and was so great to collaborate with in the design process.

Have you watched BAD MONKEY yet? There were so many amazing characters to design on this show but one of my favorite was THE DRAGON QUEEN played by Jodie Turner-Smith. We did so much research on Obeah, which is the Bahamian religion her character practiced. I talked with an amazing Obeah consultant, we spent lots of time in the Botanicas in Miami, we did lots of online research. Much of the symbolism is in the jewelry the character wears. Here are some BTS shots of the costumes for The Dragon Queen from episodes 1 and 2. WATCH TONIGHT!
