We’re excited to be part of and ’s ride this weekend. ’s aAh! Magazine will host a special exhibition at Victoria Baths following the empowering Lights Up nighttime ride which will see women and girls take to the streets to raise awareness of cycling safety and gender disparity in the sport.
The Lights Up ride, led by Belinda Everett, will take place on Saturday 9th November, celebrating the city’s status as the first European Capital of Cycling and promoting safer cycling for women.
The aAh! Magazine X Lights Up Exhibition celebrates the achievements of women in cycling, exploring new narratives in sports and supporting inclusivity and visibility within our community.
Hosted by aAh! – Manchester Metropolitan University’s arts and culture student magazine – the exhibition showcases the powerful work of student writers, journalists, artists, designers, photographers, and filmmakers, all exploring themes of women’s empowerment, inclusivity, representation and visibility on our roads and beyond.
The Light Up event will begin at All Saints Park, making its way through the Manchester Met campus and finishing with a celebration event and exhibition at the historic Victoria Baths.
Organised in partnership with Bee Pedal Ready, Station South, Manchester Metropolitan University, , We are Cycling UK, MCRActive, TfGM and Starling Bikes, the Lights Up ride aims to highlight the importance of women’s safety while cycling, especially as the dark winter months approach and the numbers of female cyclists drops significantly.
