Sad news out of London today - the great reggae historian and writer Steve Barrow has passed on. Steve was my friend and main writer for my Dub Catcher magazine in the early 90’s. This was just after his work with Trojan Records and before he started the Blood & Fire record label. I originally reached out to Steve around 1991 when I had just started Dub Catcher magazine and asked if he would write a few record reviews, he was more than happy to contribute. We immediately became close friends and he provided some of our best articles on reggae music for each issue going forward. When I visited London for the first time in 1992 he let me crash at his flat and introduced me to many of his friends there who were also involved with the reggae scene. Steve had an encyclopedia type memory of the history of reggae, just listen to his description of the early days of dub music in this interview here.
