What started as a catchy tagline turned into a movement—and now, it’s a legally protected trademark! 💥
“What The Funk” is officially mine, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
A massive THANK YOU to Cheri D. Andrews, Esq. for being my rock through the trademark process. Her expertise made it all feel effortless on my end.
Paperwork? Done. ✔
Protection? Locked in.✔
Stress? Nonexistent. ✔
She even helped me figure out a word that fit, instead of the actual F word, since you can't trademark cuss words.
This moment? It’s a vibe. And it’s protected

An app I use has a new feature "ask me anything" and the suggested question was "What should I post today to get the most engagement?"
Being curious, I just selected the question and waited for the answer. Here's what it said...

To get the most engagement today, consider these factors and tips based on current social media trends:
💡Know Your Audience: Tailor your content to what your followers care about—whether it’s humor, inspiration, education, or trending topics.
💡Trending Topics: Posting about current events, viral challenges, or popular culture can boost engagement. Check trending hashtags or news.
💡Visual Content: Bright, high-quality images or videos tend to perform best. Short videos, reels, or stories work great on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
💡Interactive Posts: Use polls, quizzes, questions, or call-to-actions like “Tag a friend who...” or “What do you think about...?”
💡Authenticity: Share personal stories, behind-the-scenes moments, or relatable content to foster a connection.
💡Timing: Post when your audience is most active. Common peak times are early morning, lunch breaks, and early evenings.
💡Hashtags & SEO: Use relevant hashtags and keywords to increase discoverability.

I found the suggestions mostly helpful. Which one do you think is the biggest take away?

💥If you’d like, I can help you craft a specific post idea for your particular platform and audience—just let me know what kind of content you usually share!

What is the coolest thing about your job/business? Please share in the comments, I'd love to hear about it.

Today for me it was listening to a client vent about her struggles with work life balance, saying the "right things" on social and doing it all in and for her business...Yes, as a social media coach I get to be a 1/3 therapist, 1/3 problem solver, and 1/3 supporter/friend.

The other day, I was able to help a client brainstorm idea for Reels, create her first video and WOW her mentor...Yes, as a social media coach I get to help my clients move past their fears while building confidence.

Last week, it was helping a client get a few tech problems resolved so that she could post easily....Yes, as a social media coach I get to help my clients find ways to make things work for them on social media.

Algorithm updates coming in.... But wait, before you roll your eyes or slap your hand to your forehead this isn't bad news. Read more below.

LinkedIn has recently revealed a few key factors that now determine what appears in your feed.:

💥Timeliness matters and fresh content gets priority.
💥Your activity history: what you usually read, who you interact with, the types of posts you comment on or share.
💥Your connection to the person posting: even if they’re not a big name, LinkedIn gives weight to posts from people you engage with.
💥The experience of the person sharing the content also counts when it comes to getting featured.

I suggest giving it a try and really focusing on your LI activity to see how the changes impact you, your profile and your feed. BUT, have no fear, in case you don't like change and want things on your LI feed to stay exactly as they are here's what to do.

💡Go to Me > Settings & Privacy > Scroll to General Preferences > Preferred Feed View and choose ‘Recent posts’ instead.
** While you are in the settings if you want to turn off political posts under General Preferences select "Feed Preferences".

Let me know in the comments what you think of the new change?

Here's how I help my clients with their social media....
We work together to brainstorm ideas, create a strategy, develop a plan.
Then we literally get to work...together. It's a combo of coaching, collaboration, and getting the $h!T done.

With this framework my clients learn how to create content, collect ideas, maximize their visibility all while we are on a call together. This means that they have the confidence of knowing their social media is done in advance, they understand the workings of creating a post and the technology.
I believe it is about empowerment, confidence and peace of mind.
I do have one client that would say she pays me monthly to "get her a$$" in the seat and make things happen. That works too 😉!

If this has you curious or sounds like exactly what you need then I invite you to send me a message so that we can set up a time to chat more about what you'd like to accomplish with your social media.
⭐This could be 1 hour a month for support.
⭐This could be weekly calls.
⭐This could be the occasional brainstorm and tweak.
It's about what you need and how I can help you accomplish that.

My absolute favorite part of social media is the storytelling. But that wasn't always the case, in the beginning, it was all about the brain science used in marketing and simplifying the tech side of things for others.

Even if you don't love social media, do you have a part that you like better than other parts?
Share your favorite, or at least tolerable part with me in the comments.

Being an entrepreneur means navigating two worlds at once. We sure do wear a lot of hats, don't we?

👉 On one side: Clients, deadlines, speaking gigs, and showing up as a professional.
👉 On the other: Real life. Plumbing disasters, chronic health struggles, and sheer exhaustion.

This week, both collided for me. A major plumbing repair has my house without water (not great when you need quiet and sanity for a speaking gig). At the same time, I’ve been battling breathing issues—finally getting a diagnosis, but the road to feeling better will take months.

Here’s what I’m reminding myself:
🤗We’re humans, serving humans.
🙄Business doesn’t always flow smoothly (pun intended).
😴Rest isn’t failure—it’s strategy.

If you’re balancing life chaos with your business right now, you’re not alone. It’s okay to pause. It’s okay to adapt. It’s okay to just get through the day.

Entrepreneurship isn’t about perfection—it’s about _______________________________... I’m curious… based on your entrepreneur experiences, what word would you end this sentence with? Share with me in the comments. I'll share mine in the comments too.

In relation to our day-to-day struggles in life and business, my best friend always says, "What you resist, persists," and I hear him in my head saying it at least once a week. As entrepreneurs, we face countless challenges, but sometimes, our biggest battles are within ourselves. This week, I'm reflecting on what I've been resisting. Have you ever found yourself avoiding something that might actually propel you forward?"

🌿This Week's Reflection: Take a moment to identify what you've been resisting in your business or personal growth journey. Is it stepping into a new role, sharing your voice, or embracing a platform like social media?

✨ Challenge Yourself: Let's flip the script. Instead of resisting, how can we harness these opportunities to amplify our impact? Whether it's taking the first step or diving deeper into a project, every action counts.

❓What's one thing you've been resisting that you're ready to tackle head-on this week? Let's support each other in overcoming our challenges and celebrating our victories together!

Amidst writing my book, I’ve come to realize this:

You don’t have to craft a flawless story to claim your life. Whether you're still figuring things out or feeling hesitant, know this—there's no timetable for success, no requirement for perfection, and no need to face it all by yourself. You're writing your story, and every chapter matters even the hard or messy ones.

This reminder for myself is also valid for us as we navigate showing up and sharing ourselves on social media. Perfection isn't required, requested or needed.
All that is needed is just us, showing up and sharing our truths, our tales and our wisdom.

How have you been showing up for your business and yourself this week?

I believe in being authentic through and through.

Which means today, I'm sharing that I made a minor grammar mistake yesterday on a graphic which is harder to correct than just editing text.

The best part of the mistake is that my daughter is the one who noticed my error. (The celebration is that my daughter is the one who noticed which means she is watching, and your kids are too.) Her pointing out my mistake in order to help me was such a beautiful gift. But the even bigger gift is that I was provided with the perfect opportunity to share with her that I wasn't able to correct my mistake and that it was ok.

Here's what I shared with her:

It's OK because I'm human and make mistakes sometimes.

It's even more OK because my social media platforms are built with amazing supportive people who are able to see past my mistakes.

And most importantly it reminds me to trust that authenticity works.

If you've made a mistake this week know that I am celebrating with you because we are still showing up and doing the things.

Keep being awesome.

🚨 New Instagram Update You Should Know About

Starting July 10, public IG posts are going to start showing up in Google search results. Yep—your posts now have the potential to work way beyond their usual 24-hour shelf life… if you set them up right.

Here’s how to get your content ready for the spotlight:
✏️Audit your profile. “Fit with Katie” is fun, but not super searchable. Try “Katie James | Strength Coach for Women 40+”.
🔍 Use keywords and hashtags wisely. They’re not just for reach—they help with search.
📝 Add alt text. Not just good for accessibility—Google (and AI) are reading it too.

Your old content just got a second chance to shine. Use it well.

Want your Instagram to work smarter for you? Now’s the time.

❓Need help making your content more search-friendly without losing your vibe? Let’s chat

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update my bios too. In fact, I'm going to set an intention to update my bio on all the platforms I am on.

Let me know in the comments what you think about this update.
