Dedicated to the memory of one of the greatest hip-hop labels of the 90's, based out of New Orleans, LA - Big Boy Records. Established in 1993 by Charles "Big Boy" Temple, Big Boy Records started with the release of Sporty T's single "Sporty Talk-N-Sporty". Sporty T brought in Partners-N-Crime, while Charles (aka "Big Chucc") met DJ Precise and Black Menace, and suddenly they were a label to liste
n for. The following year DJ Precise teamed up with another producer, D-Funk, and together they co-produced an album by New Orleans local legend G-Slimm. A signature sound had been born! Partners-N-Crime had beef with U.N.L.V., which spawned a feud between Big Boy Records and Cash Money Records. This ongoing beef helped both labels get a lot of buzz, but when Yella Boy of U.N.L.V. was killed, the beef seemingly was over, and coincidentally, Big Boy Records was having some issues of it's own: G-Slimm got killed, Mystikal got all the attention and other artists wanted to leave, and the production team stopped working as a team. Chucc went to jail, investors pulled out, and Big Boy went out of business. So here's to Big Boy Records (1993-1997) - It was fun while it lasted!
