City of Silex This page now will be the city run page.

We will be dedicating the pipeline on Friday July 25th at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall.

15/07/2025

We have a broken water main on Duncan Mansion and in order to fix it the water will need to be shut off in a half hour and will be off for two hours during repair. Please plan accordingly and fill some extra jugs for drinking, cooking and flushing your toilet. We apologize for the inconvenience.

06/07/2025

We have a broken water pipe downtown so there will be issues with low pressure and water outage throughout the day. If you can collect water in jugs you should do so. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Well folks, I hope your 4th of July is going well. I'm leaving from downtown since no one is here. I would ask to those of you shooting fireworks off in New Town that you please pick up debris left behind in the street and your neighbor's yard. Happy birthday America! ❤️🇺🇸

Happy Independence Day!!
Just a reminder that City Hall is closed today for the holiday.
Also, anyone who would like to bring their fireworks downtown and shoot them off is more than welcome. I will be down there at around 7 and we will have a food truck there for refreshments. Please be respectful of the people and animals who get spooked by the boom of the fireworks and come on down and join us downtown.
Stay safe this weekend.

The water is back on in Duncan Mansion area. Citizens are advised to boil water for 24 hours as a precaution. The water from your tap is still good to drink and use.

01/07/2025

Regarding the pressure in the Duncan Mansion lines, they will be working today to disconnect the tower from the system. Unfortunately this may mean a water outage I'm told for a possible two hour max but it also could not happen at all. So fill some jugs to be prepared just in case.

Folks!

We just now received the letter from MoDNR St. Louis Region that we are approved to release you to use the water that is coming to you through your tap. This means you can drink it and cook with it without fear of radionuclides. This is a long awaited movement forward and we are proud to be at this point. There will be NO MORE bottled water distributed to anyone. Thank you for your patience.

27/06/2025

The city will be handing out bottled water today at the back of City Hall between 2 and 4. After close to $50,000 spent on bottled water, it is our hope that this will be the last distribution we will ever have to do. All we are waiting for is a letter from MoDNR clearing the water from your tap for drinking and cooking. They would not give an informal approval. Watch this space and for push notifications giving the all clear.

26/06/2025

I am coming on here to explain some things and ask for your help. We are very close to being able to tell you that the water is okay to drink and use for cooking which will eliminate the need for bottled water. We thought we were going to be okay with the supply we have but unfortunately DNR will not clear the water until they can do so formally in written communication. So, we will need to purchase water tomorrow and have a distribution day outside of our normal time. It is likely we will get the okay as soon as tomorrow or as late as next week. We cannot buy a partial shipment so we will need to get it from Sam's. I apologize if you made a trip today and didn't get water because we ran out. I tried to limit what was going out but I received pushback for that from a citizen. I firmly believe we will be drinking water from the tap by no later than Wednesday next week, hopefully sooner. Please be patient with us and watch for the notification that we are there to distribute or we are clear to consume it. Thank you in advance. ~Mayor

Due to the fact that both of our AC units are not working and because of the extreme heat I am closing City Hall tomorrow and Friday. Terra will be working from home and answering calls from 573-384-3057. Hopefully the weather will be better next week and we can get the units installed on Wednesday. Thank you for your patience.
