"Living Memories: A Memoir" provides a glimpse into the inspiring life of my great-grandmother, Nellie Gail Moulton.

In a charming, flamboyant style, Nellie tells of crossing Kansas in a covered wagon and being stopped by bandits; of becoming an accountant, school teacher and principal, and giving it up for love; of studying en plein air painting with the California masters; of managing a 22,000-acre cattle ranch, and of founding the Laguna Playhouse and Laguna College of Art and Design.

All the best,

Scott T. Barnes

Dear Friends,

I wanted to introduce you to a project very dear to my heart. Many of you know that my family has created a museum in Orange County to celebrate our ranching heritage. The Moulton Museum, located in Laguna Hills, California, features a treasure trove of antiques found at my great-aunt Louise's house when she passed away at the age of 99. There, we found paintings and many thousands of documents, telegrams, ledgers, and more.

Among the dusty boxes, we found a memoir my great-grandmother had written. And not just any memoir. The Director Emeritus of The Irvine Museum said, “I have never been so present with a historical figure as when I read Living Memories, by Nellie Gail Moulton.”

Nellie Gail crossed the plains in a covered wagon, lived in a sod house, taught in a one-room school, and went on to manage the 22,000-acre Moulton Ranch. Her writing style is as exceptional as her story.

I have spent a year editing the manuscript, adding photos, drafting footnotes, and getting it ready for publication.

That date is finally here!

I invite you to discover it for yourself.
