Well, I learned a lesson. It took one of our artist/listeners to call me out and I'm a big enough "man" to say I was wrong. Many of you know that summer and fall are my two biggest touring and performance seasons. (I perform over 200 shows a year now, and some weeks 2-3 a day/night in the summer/fall). I'm running a mile a minute some days yet still committed to getting these Western Air Waves shows cranked out on (or close to) schedule! In haste, I grabbed what I thought was a stock photo of cowboy boots on Canva as my graphic to accompany the Monday show. Darrell Arnold wrote to me and pointed out the inaccurate and incorrect portrayal of the spurs in the photo. In looking more closely, I too saw that it was not authentic - likely an AI creation that I mistook in my haste for a stock photo. I changed it. As a nod to Darrell keeping me authentic, I took a pic of a pair of my own cowboy boots for today's graphic. I am a barrel racer, hence the "humane spurs" vs rowels. Most of you know barrel horses are pretty hot, so spurs are used by me only as a training aid to move the horse off of my leg, if he or she is slow to respond, and very lightly at that. Most times, I don't use a spur at all, as my horses over the years have been quite sensitive to the slightest movement of my heel or calf against their side, lifting or bending their rib cage around the barrel, shifting laterally through poles, or doing side passes, turns on the haunches, rollbacks, etc.
