Firing up the new season as archetypal shapes find their sonic voices in this latest collab between KRAAK and Bruggesian DYI lords Dekant ~ Czech ambient fields guitarist 𝓣𝓸𝓶áš 𝓝𝓲𝓮𝓼𝓷𝓮𝓻 and Brussels' savage vocal sixtet 𝓛𝓪𝓭𝓻 𝓐𝓬𝓱𝓮 square off in the begone fogs of a disused shooting range, as 𝓑𝓲𝓳𝓷𝓪 𝓖𝓪𝓪𝓻 𝓚𝓸𝓵𝓵𝓮𝓴𝓽𝓲𝓮𝓯 unload fire tracks for the aural soundtracks.

Introducing 𝙎𝙋𝙇𝙄𝙏 𝙇𝙄𝙑𝙀𝙎 1: 𝙈𝙊𝙎𝙌𝙐𝙄𝙏𝙊 𝙁𝘼𝙍𝙈 // 𝙃𝙊𝙍𝘼𝘾𝙄𝙊 𝙋𝙊𝙇𝙇𝘼𝙍𝘿

KRAAK presents a new tape series pulling sounds from the collective unconscious: 𝙎𝙋𝙇𝙄𝙏 𝙇𝙄𝙑𝙀𝙎 contains 2 live sets harvested from our deep archives, which go as far back as 2012 and contain dozens of memory-hole recordings from KRAAK’s nomadic stagings ~ hopefully they’ll trigger memories for those who were there, and prompt new ones in those who weren’t.

For this first outing, two Brit acts of recent timelines bringing outstanding moments of semi-controlled clang and chaos: 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙤 𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙢’s bouncing reverberations this year at Kiosk in Ghent, and 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙤 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙙’s storm blast of danceable havoc from KRAAK Festival 2024. An almost intelligible introductory entry for these Split Lives, whose future iterations promise definite surprises from our multiple pasts!

For nearly 30 years and through many many different hands, KRAAK has strived to present an eclectic, adventurous view of the experimental music landscape at large. While we are currently funded by the Flemish Government, we still need to diversify our income streams in order to maintain the scale and breadth of our activities. This is why we're appealing to followers old and new of KRAAK to pledge their support in helping us build a sustainable base for our projects to exist, all while giving them (nearly) unbridled access to everything that KRAAK has to offer.

kraak in slow summer mode, aka retracting and reflecting for the necessary recharge. nevertheless, the summer so far's been a sweaty love-in:::

1-5 as ostendian as things get in OHK, madame kroketing through Autoreverse shreds and Osiana portals before the last train's sprint

6-9 fête de l'elephant's heatwave summonings with Amachitiama's folk chants, De Mond's slamming sounds and the steady climb of Rudi J's dancefloor antics

10-14 madrid came to brussels in temperature and in crowd, with real no real's curation smoking up qo-2 during peak heatwave ~ Noela & Garazi's conjoined wails, Matacandil's violinist epics and DJ Twinkles' jungle speakeasy tinting the place in full verano mode

15-20 ending at de nor with taco the dog and many more friends and faces and vacation-ready tunes: Nuke Watch and some future jazz for non-jaded aliens, Kiara Govaert with loops of certain possessions, Zoe Paravolo and her carousel of weird, Horacio Pollard crypto-curious techno, and Handle juggling the post end on funk and punk, for the end of times is not here yet!

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE IT, new shows in September onwards and some breadcrumbs to be spread between here and then 🌞

Featuring artists of KRAAK Fest’s near past (Nuke Watch’s shimmering new age, Horacio Pollard’s distorted dance hits) or iterations thereof (Giulio Erasmus’s homegrown post-punk vehicle Handle, with Leo Hermitt and Nirvana Heire) or even new additions to the canon (Zoé Paravolo’s warped wisdom, Kiara Govaert’s speaker settings ahead of her first cassette release (!) on KRAAK (!!)).

With Noela Coelo Velasco & Garazi Navas presenting the accordeon-laced performance Proxima vuelta del faro, Matacandil and their intertwining violins, and a DJ set by Real No Real and surprise guests 👀 A homegrown curation slated to descend unto the Brussels canal for a night of blurred genres and spaced encounters. Needless to say: 💃!
