THE TRACKER THAT WON'T HUNT: I'm probably overdue to let people know why I've been a bit quiet in recent weeks. Fortunately, there's no bad news to relate, just some temporary transitions.

The primary cause of my relative silence is that I'm rushing to meet an October 31 book deadline. The book is a history of Japanese Prime Ministers, not local affairs, and almost every spare minute is going into writing and editing the final text. After the manuscript has been delivered at the end of October, my attention will likely return to news in Galesburg and Knox County.

A second major cause is that I am giving Galesburg Community News some runway to define itself. I am a co-founder of the new NPO, though I have no current affiliation with it. I would like to see it succeed, and am prepared to get out of its way. Once I can better understand which lanes it is able to effectively occupy, then I'll make decisions about the future coverage strategies of The Tracker. This is likely to focus on occasional investigative news articles.

The weekly edition of The Tracker still goes out each Monday morning at 5am, so there's no reason why folks shouldn't still join the email list. As of this morning, we are up to 717 email subscribers.
