Burial Arrangements Revealed for Mother of Late Sylvester Oromoni, Three Years After His Controversial Death
Plans have been made for the burial of the late Evangelist Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, mother of Sylvester Oromoni Jr.—the Dowen College student whose death in 2021 sparked national outrage. Mrs. Oromoni passed away in November 2024, nearly three years after her son's untimely death.
According to reports, she struggled with depression and high blood pressure following the loss of her son and the lengthy legal battle that followed. Sylvester’s death in November 2021 drew widespread attention after his family alleged he was bullied and forced to ingest a harmful substance by senior students. Dowen College denied the allegations, claiming he was injured during a football game.
The case remained unresolved for years, with multiple autopsy reports providing conflicting conclusions. While one early autopsy pointed to chemical poisoning, a Lagos coroner later determined that Sylvester died of natural causes due to sepsis. Eventually, the accused students were exonerated, and no one was held accountable.
Dissatisfied with the legal outcome, the Oromoni family delayed Sylvester’s burial for over two years. He was finally laid to rest in Warri in January 2024. Tragically, his mother died just a few months later.
