Song Clinic is a 1-2-1 session dedicated to you and your songwriting. We can talk about songcraft, about lyrical intention and ex*****on, melodies and rhythms, and the mysterious beautiful ways in which words, tunes and chords interact. I won’t co-write with you. This is about you and your song and working to make it the best it can be.

I write songs and I also teach songwriting at ICMP London and at Cambridge University’s ICE. I love helping people see the potential in themselves and their songs.

Polly Paulusma is set to release a new album of traditional folk songs from the British Isles, songs which inspired the writer Angela Carter.

Alongside her music-making activities, Paulusma is a PhD student at UEA (University of East Anglia) in Norwich where she is researching how being a folk singer influenced the writer Angela Carter. Part of her research has involved the uncovering of a previously-unknown recording of Carter singing in a folk club in the 1960s, and her work is examining how musical features interfere with Carter’s idiosyncratic writing style.

This album has been borne of that work; by singing and performing the songs herself, Paulusma hopes to develop a richer understanding of how these songs worked on Carter’s imagination from the inside out.

On Friday 17th March Stylusboy is playing a headline show at Forest Folk and Roots at The College Arms in Cranfield. He will be playing a number of new songs and it will also be his debut show with his new semi-hollow electric guitar, Jack! This will be his last live show for a while as he is about to start to record his second album. Opening the evening will be Lewis McKale.
