Shall we take a short deviation from grammar? NO. There are some folks who think grammar is unnecessary and stifling. I’ll tell you (IMHO) that it is as important as ever....

When we ask too much of the reader, they revert to word calling or parsing at best. At worst, they focus so intently on each syllable or phonetic sound that they are taken completely outside the text. Don’t send your reader away!...

We’ve lost momentum and really don’t know where to pick it up again. I’ve been in that mode. While at times we do need to step away and let our subconscious work, don’t get stuck....

A new direction is simply experience leading you forward. Do you remember Romancing the Stone? The 1984 movie starring Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas gave us a glance behind the first step to a great story. (Hey, nobody said I was a young writer.) The author pounding away on a vintage typewriter, sniffling as if she could hold back her tears....

About the Krazines
The Krazines (formerly the Kenosha/Racine Area Zine Makers) are an art-making, creative writing, and zine publishing group, whose membership is open to anyone who wishes to take part from Kenosha, Racine, or anywhere else in the world.
The Krazines were founded in 2016 as a part of Left of the Lake, LLC. Their first event took place in February 2016 at Public Craft Brewery in downtown Kenosha, WI when several celebrated zinesters entertained and educated at this social place. In the following month (and ever since), artists and authors of all ages and abilities have produced pages to be published in our full-color, professionally-printed zine.
Copies are provided to contributors and sold to subscribers, as well as limited amount of copies are for sale to the general public.
In non-COVID times between 2016 and early 2020, The Krazines hosted monthly Art Jams on first Saturdays at galleries, shops, museums, coffee houses, and private residences in the Kenosha and Racine area. They hope to return to greeting you at Art Jams at some time in 2021.
Krazines continues to publish its monthly zine. In 2016, the zine was a 16-page, black-and-white, saddle-stiched (stapled) publication. Today, it’s a 48 page, full-color, perfect bound, professionally printed edition, which would look great on your bookshelf or coffee table. Each month’s issue is tied to a particular theme. Submissions of visual art, comics, prose and poetry are always welcome. Send to info@krazines or request a copy of our submission guidelines.
In 2019, the Krazines began organizing urban/nature sketching adventures and Art Jaunts to other cities, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Cultural Center. Krazines also hosted Krazines Fest at RAM’s Wustum Museum of Fine Arts in November 2019 and co-hosted the tribute concert, From Natchez to Kenosha: A Tribute to Tom Waits, at Fusion in Kenosha in December 2019. They hope to resume their events at some time in 2021.
Krazines wishes to thank its contributors, host sites and subscribers for their support, and share special thanks to Samira Gdisis of the Black-Eyed Press and Melanie Becker Hovey.
