🌱 A guide to mindfulness, one seed at a time

Mindfulness in the Garden offers simple verses (gathas) to help us be present while tending to the earth. Like cultivating a garden, cultivating mindfulness allows the seeds of compassion, joy, and understanding to bloom.

With a foreword by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and a new afterword by Mick McEvoy of Plum Village’s Happy Farm, this new edition invites us to see that weeds, like challenges, can also be teachers.

✨ Available now at parallax.org and at your local bookstore.

🌿 Breathing together, we remember Dr. Larry Ward (True Great Sound) — teacher, author, and true brother on the path.

Larry was a senior Dharma teacher in the Plum Village tradition of Thích Nhất Hạnh, and co-founder of the Lotus Institute with his wife, Dr. Peggy Rowe-Ward. He invited us to look deeply into the roots of suffering and to embrace the healing power of mindfulness, love, and community.

At Parallax Press, we are honored to continue his voice of clarity, courage, and compassion through his books America’s Racial Karma and Love’s Garden. His teachings, like the sound of a great bell, will keep resonating in our hearts.

With palms joined, we hold Peggy and all who loved Larry in our collective embrace. 🌸

What moments stayed with you on the trail this summer? 🌿

Perhaps it was the crunch of earth beneath your feet, the quiet breath of trees, or the wide sky above you. Hiking can be a journey both through landscapes and into ourselves.

📖 Hiking Zen offers reflections and practices for walking in mindfulness—where every step is part of the path.

We’d love to hear:
✨ What did your heart notice on your hikes this summer?

“Freedom from fear of every kind and realization of peace within is the first step towards a peaceful world.”

Today, we celebrate the birthday of beloved teacher and peace activist Satish Kumar. His book Soil, Soul, Society is a gentle manifesto for inner and outer transformation—a call to live in harmony with the Earth, with one another, and with ourselves.

🌿 Happy continuation, dear Satish. May your steps continue to nourish the soil, awaken the soul, and guide society towards peace. Your life is a deep inspiration.

“The heart that breaks open can contain the whole universe.” — Joanna Macy ✨

Dear friends,
Our beloved teacher Joanna Macy has continued on.

With deep gratitude and quiet sorrow, we remember her presence, her voice, and her tireless love for the Earth and all beings. A pioneer of deep ecology and engaged Buddhism, Joanna helped us see that grief and love are never far apart—and that from this tender ground, courageous action can grow.

At Parallax Press, we are honored to have collaborated with Joanna on two deep projects of the heart:

📚 World as Lover, World as Self — an invitation to live with courage, clarity, and planetary compassion
📚 Pass It On: Five Stories That Can Change the World — a small, beautiful book that reminds us of our power to inspire one another through simple acts of love and resistance

May we walk gently in her footsteps, breathe with the Earth she so deeply cherished, and carry her teachings into this very moment.
