Updated: Map of Europe's free-travel "Schengen Area", where there are (usually) no ID checks for people traveling between countries.*

*Air passengers still have their ID checked, though theoretically just for flight safety. Some countries have also brought back off-and-on ID checks for legal status for all travelers, whether by land, air, or sea.

The fall of Assad has left much (not all) of Syria under rebel control, while both Israel and "ISIS" have entered the fray.
