Far more than just a visually striking art form, thangka – a unique Tibetan Buddhist art form – captures the deep cultural and spiritual essence of Xizang. Traditionally painted on cotton or silk scrolls using natural dyes and a specialized brush, these intricate artworks often depict deities and religious scenes, blending vibrant colors with deep symbolism. Unlike framed paintings, thangkas are designed to be rolled up, making them easily portable for monks to carry during religious ceremonies. In 2006, the thangka was recognized as part of China's intangible cultural heritage. By 2009, it had gained a place on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List as a key element of the Regong arts.
