Do you have a favourite compressor for its unique color?

Another test for various vst compressors (by and .audio) analyzing their color on the sound, using Supervision analyzer module and a white noise.\
We can see some don't affect the eq at all, while others introduce shelfs on low end (as the most part of compressors emulations do) but as well on high end.

👀 Which one do you prefer?

Same emulation = Same sound?

Testing and analyzing a simple 808 kick with long tail with the same 60hz boost on the Waves Audio PuigTec vs Universal Audio Pultec EQP-1a emulation.
Anyway, on the hardware the sound changes all the time, after some time of use, even from the same exact model/version/manufacturer. You can easily imagine that those differences are being transferred all the time in the digital emulation world, each time a machine is sample/modeled.

Do compressors affect the low end frequencies? Let's analyze 3 Universal Audio compressors to see which and how they affect low end, using Steinberg "Supervision" analyzer.

At default parameters and with matched levels, we can see the affecting the very low end from around 40hz, the with a wider and smoother shelf and the LA-2A showing no (at least in this test) reduction in the low end.

Remember about that when choosing your best compressor!
