The irony of being house sitting again and still not having posted all the dips from the last one

The Cairngorms was an absolute heaven. You just needed to take your pick of where, pray the weather gods were on your side and you could literally dip in multiple locations from sunrise to sundown

All kinds of light ✨

Ben Lui & Beinn a’Chlèibh

Delivered stunning views and endless bog so of course we fell out with each other

By the end, it does redeem itself with magical waterfalls that on a hot day felt like an oasis in the desert so we ended up pals again

Still need a long break before seeing this one again

I’m not saying I prefer waterfalls but I’ll give credit where it’s due: on a really warm, sunny day, a waterfall is hard to beat

But keep it between us. The lochs have been good to me, and I’m not looking to fall out of their good graces

Picking a forest walk and a dip instead of a munro was the right choice for that last day of the heatwave

If it hadn’t been for failed morning plans and the weather apps getting it wrong, I would have never done my first sunset hike

The walk back, mostly in complete darkness was slightly questionable and I still think I rather do a sunrise hike but it was still worth it for these views

Some things fall apart so better things can come together ✨

One year ago to the date I went out for my first solo hike and dip. It hardly matter what I was hiking, it was very much about just getting out there and doing it alone

Today I went back, did the same hike, the same dip, as a completely different person. Cliché but what a year it has been … mostly fuelled by side quests, sunrise chasing, and a rapidly deteriorating sleep schedule

For a long time, if this loch had a tagline, it would be:

Go take the darkness out my heart
Girl, I know it may hurt
But it won’t last forever

I’ve come here to dip more times than I can count, usually when life has felty heavy. But now it’s more like:

I enjoy my coffee with a side of freezing water and sunrise

That’s the thing about dips for me, they don’t have to be the in the most dramatic or breathtaking place to mean something. Some places hold different versions of you (soppy, I know)

So here’s to laughing in the places you once cried. Rewriting the story. Even if the method is so unhinged that people have called you mental several times ✨

Not a beanie, pair of hiking boots or swimsuit in sight and it was blissful

But after spending 4 days in Gothenburg, here are some of the things I would recommend doing:

* Visit Haga and get yourself the biggest cinnamon bun known to man (or kanelbullar as they call it) - slide 7 & 18

* Take a tour of the archipelago islands with . I was kindly gifted this experience but it was something I had already been looking into anyway. There are a variety of tours you can do, some you can have lunch or dinner - slide 12 & 14

* Spend an afternoon and evening at . If you like rides, you’ll love this. They also have other things on, and I was lucky enough to be there on a pizza and wine night with live music - slide 9, 10 & 11

* Wander around Slottsskogen park. It has a sort of zoo within it where you can see goats, sheep, ponies, penguins, chickens, seals, dear and even a moose - slide 1 & 4

* Watch a sunset from Skansen Kronan. Short wee hill but incredible views over the city - slide 5 & 19

* Stay at Comfort Hotel Goteborg which is right by the water and has a rooftop bar too. Sunset from here also did not disappoint - slide 2 & 15

The city is very walkable but I’m partial to an electric scooter, so for longer distances that’s what I used. That said, it’s very public transport friendly with buses and trams plus you can find either the scooters or bikes everywhere

Architecture is stunning. Parts of it gave me Meatpacking District/Greenwich/SoHo/Tribeca vibes. There are plenty of other things to do (museums included) but the sun was out and basking in it while wandering the city seemed like a nicer option than being indoors

Flights were cheap too. Ryanair has a handy feature where you can select the dates you want to travel and it gives you an overview of where it flies on those dates. This makes it much easier to spot a bargain if you’re after one and that’s how Gothenburg was actually picked to be honest

Mountains are great but a city break with good food and sunshine doesn’t hurt at all either ✨

When your mind finally meets something strong enough to quiet it

Cold water kind of forces your brain to stop multitasking for a minute, there’s no overthinking, no noise, just survive and breathe

A follower said this to me in conversation, and honestly, it perfectly captured something I’ve always felt but never quite knew how to explain

That strange kind of peace in something so uncomfortable

One of the things I love most about housesitting is getting to experience a place like a local rather than just passing through. You notice the small things, find the quieter spots, and leave with a completely different appreciation for somewhere

In this case, it’s fair to say that the running theme was a lot of dog, mountains and lochs and to be honest I don’t think it could get much better

Cairngorms came to an end and so did April. What a silly good month. How is it May already?

‘Cause you gave me magical, I gave you wonderful ... let’s make this biblical ✨
