ASP James joined the RGPF on November 30, 1992, after enrolling at the Police Training School at Fort George. He was part of Course Number 23, which comprised 58 recruits.
After six months of training, he graduated in June 1993 at the Old Queen’s Park, the final recruit course to pass out at that historic venue.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Allan James is among the officers of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) who were promoted on Monday during a ceremony held in St George's.

Grenada’s school sports are evolving—but they are also facing real challenges.
A proposed Grenada Schools Athletic League (GSAL) aims to bring structure, consistency, and development-focused competition across schools, covering Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Netball, Track & Field, and Volleyball at the U-13, U-15 and U-18 levels.

The GSAL would also feed into a proposed Grenada National Games (GNG), staged every two years, creating a clear pathway from school sports to national representation.

This forward-thinking proposal, advanced by Grenadian Axel Joseph, calls for collaboration among the Ministries of Sports and Education, the Principals Association, and National Federations.

TalkSports gives its full support, noting the urgent need to overhaul structural deficiencies in school sports and align with the National Sports Policy.

Grenadians are encouraged to play an active role in the island’s national development, not only through participation but also by contributing ideas, frameworks and innovative projects. One such proposal—rooted in proven international practice and adapted to local realities—is now gaining rene...

by Michael Bascombe
The core of Grenada’s team for the 2026 CARIFTA Games, which will be staged at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, is already in camp as preparations intensify for the regional showcase.

An official from the Grenada Athletics Association (GAA) confirmed that the athletes are currently engaged in a five-day training camp, one of several camps planned over the coming months as part of a structured build-up to the Games. The camp focuses on both physical conditioning and technical work, as well as mental preparation, including competition readiness, discipline, and performance management.

The official further explained that it is GAA policy to utilise the Intercol Championships as a performance gauge rather than as a formal selection meet. Most members of the CARIFTA squad would have already earned their places through performances at the National Championships, which traditionally form the primary basis for selection. A pre-selection team is usually identified, and subsequent meets — including Intercol — are used to assess an athlete’s form, consistency, and readiness ahead of the Games.

However, the GAA remains open to exceptional performances, and athletes who meet or exceed CARIFTA Games qualifying standards may still be considered for inclusion. As hosts of the 2026 CARIFTA Games, Grenada enjoys the added advantage of being able to expand its national team, as there are no logistical constraints, such as international travel, that would otherwise limit squad size.

The 2026 CARIFTA Games are scheduled to take place at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium from April 4–6, 2026.

The staging of Intercol is not connected to the CARIFTA Games or to the performance of Grenada’s national team at that regional championship. The two events serve different purposes within the athletics calendar.

The core contingent of Grenada’s CARIFTA Games team has already been identified and has been in structured training for several months in preparation for the Games. While athletes who deliver exceptional performances at Intercol may come under consideration, Intercol is not a designated selection meet for the CARIFTA Games.

Intercol was originally scheduled for March 24-26, 2026, but the dates were temporarily adjusted to March 10-12 to accommodate the Australian Women’s Cricket Team’s tour of the Caribbean, which included fixtures in Grenada. Following the latest update confirming that the cricket match in Grenada has been rescheduled, organisers have now reverted Intercol to its original dates of March 24-26, 2026.

Importantly, all Principals of Secondary Schools, at a recent meeting, collectively agreed to the decision to revert the dates to March 24–26, ensuring consensus among school administrators and alignment with the academic and sporting calendar.

The CARIFTA Games will be held shortly thereafter, from April 4-6, allowing sufficient separation between the two events while ensuring athletes remain on course with their competition and preparation schedules.
