BREAKING: Lockdown Situation at STLCC-Florissant Valley has ended.

Chancellor Jeff Pittman has sent out the following statement:

“Dear STLCC Community,

The lockdown at STLCC- Florissant Valley is all clear. St. Louis County Police identified a subject not currently affiliated with the College, with possible self-harm intentions. They were in the vicinity of the campus, as determined by cell phone records.

STLCC police initiated lockdown procedures and swept the campus for the subject. The subject was apprehended quickly and is in police custody.

Thank you to our STLCC police for their quick response in support of the safety of our STLCC community.

Regards,
Jeff Pittman, PhD
Chancellor”

The building has history dating back to 1972, and is the last original building left along Big Bend Road.

A big congratulations to STLCC student, Lulu McGowan, the newly-elected Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society international president for 2025-26! We couldn't be more proud of this phenomenal achievement!

Lulu went through a rigorous selection process to earn votes at the honor society’s annual convention April 3-5. She was one of seven people running for the position, with the field shrinking as it went through three rounds of speeches, interviews and campaigning.

Congrats, Lulu! Learn more in our news story: https://bit.ly/4lZHSVi

The Montage has received two letters to the editor criticizing the use of AI-generated images to illustrate stories. We appreciate the feedback and would love to start a discussion about the use of AI.

Our process is to utilize emerging technology for stories or editorials that beg the need for a visual, especially when copyright-free images are unavailable to illustrate global or national issues or our staff is unable to take a photo or craft a graphic as well as AI. While we do encourage our staff to produce graphics and illustrations, we have begun to use tools, including AI to offer a better way to fully illustrate our pieces.

“STLCC remains stagnant with a C- grade as the ‘Best Place To Work’ in 2025”

STLCC once again participated in the St. Louis Business Journal’s “Best Place to Work Survey” and once again, the college came out with an overall score of 70.

The Montage spoke with Chancellor Pittman about the survey results, and the criticisms the college received regarding “Pathways,” the academic reorganization, and the behavior of college leadership. He also spoke about Nursing at the Meramec campus, and why changes are coming to the college’s health insurance.
