Apalachicola Riverkeeper has won a hard-fought legal fight to stop an exploratory oil drilling permit in the floodplain of the Apalachicola River. Today, the Florida DEP denied one drilling permit to Clearwater Land and Minerals but the coast ain’t clear yet!

More permits could be on the horizon. The Kill the Drill bill needs to cross the finish line with the Governor’s support.

The permit denial is a win for the River, the Bay, and the Floodplain that buffers the Apalachicola River. It’s also a win for the people whose livelihoods are connected to the water.

SEPARATELY, future drilling near the Apalachicola River and Bay, could be stopped by the Kill the Drill bill. Not yet law, the bill was passed by the Florida Legislature with overwhelming support. It's now headed to the Governor's desk. The passage of the bill would preserve our economy, ecology, and a way of life in North Florida. Let's keep standing up together for the Apalachicola River!
