36,230 Crore. That's the reported cost of the Ganga Expressway. A project showcased as a symbol of "development" and inaugurated with great fanfare just weeks ago.
Now a viral video is raising serious questions about the quality of construction, with people alleging that deep cracks have appeared on parts of the road. If these claims are found to be true, every Indian taxpayer has the right to ask: where did thousands of crores go?
For years, the BJP has built its image around highways, expressways and infrastructure. But infrastructure is not about ribbon-cutting ceremonies, drone shots, advertisements and photo ops. Infrastructure is about quality, safety and accountability.
A road that costs over ₹36,000 crore should inspire confidence, not fear. Citizens should not have to wonder whether the road beneath them is safe. They should not have to rely on viral videos to expose potential defects in projects funded by their own money.
If there are construction flaws, then there must be an independent inquiry. Contractors, officials and everyone responsible should be held accountable. Development cannot become a slogan used to hide negligence.
India deserves world-class infrastructure, not infrastructure that looks world-class only on inauguration day.
Taxpayers paid for this project.
They deserve answers.
