After the Laurentide Glacier retreated 20000 years ago, it formed the Champlain Sea that was found in Ontario, Quebec, New York and Vermont. When the land rose above sea level and the Champlain sea was no more, huge sand deposits were left. Today, we visit these dunes that are home to rare insects and plants that can live in a harsh and unique environment. Restoring the dunes has been a priority in the last 10+ years. Link in comments.
