1929 Ryder Cup, Moortown

Al Espinosa lit up the first day of practice with a 66 which included a hole-in-one at the newly-extended 6th (now 8th) hole.

The shot made history as it was the first in the UK by a player born in the States.

The 6th (now 8th) had been lengthened from 134 to 221 yards and a bunker on the left of the green was removed ‘to be set back a short distance towards the new tee so as to call for a carry of about 150 yards’. It’s possible that this is the bunker that has now been reinstated.

England County Championship: True Yorkshire grit was evident as the Men fought back to take the morning foursomes 2.5-0.5, then find themselves behind in the pouring-rain singles with three matches in. Cue a sweep of the last 3 matches out and a commanding position going into the final match vs Gloucestershire. Bring it home boys!
