Machine: Vivat Apparatus is a 2022 documentary directed by Becky Beamer that looks inside one of the most talked-about power structures in college life. Released in the United States on August 27, 2022, the film follows an unlikely trio — a lawyer, a pizza maker, and a student — as they challenge a secretive Greek organization at the University of Alabama known to insiders as the Machine.

What begins as a local fight over campus politics widens into a story about influence, intimidation, and institutional fraud. The documentary tracks how a shadowy network is alleged to shape elections, silence critics, and protect its own. Against that backdrop, the three subjects push for accountability in a community where speaking up can carry a real cost. Beamer frames their stand as both personal and civic: a small group confronting entrenched power, systemic racism, and a society that was never as secret as its members claimed.

Running as an indie investigation rather than a campus exposé for its own sake, Machine: Vivat Apparatus turns a local battle into a broader look at justice, community, and who gets to decide.
