The name pays tribute to Vladimir Herzog (27 June 1937 – 25 October 1975), alias Vlado, a Brazilian journalist, university professor and playwright who was killed by the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil between 1964 and 1985. Herzog is a symbol of the struggle for democracy, freedom, and justice.
