Colorado Community - Mother Earth News This page serves Colorado residents interested in modern homesteading and wiser living, by providing a space for anyone to post information.

On this page you can share news, notes and networking with your neighbors, with primary emphasis on Colorado-specific information. Think of it as an online, user-generated, state-oriented newspaper/bulletin board specializing in advice and resources for wiser living. You are invited to post seasonal gardening tips and reports, news from your organization or green business, issue action alerts, eve

nts, items wanted or for sale, etc. Even tasteful personal ads are welcome. Topic areas for discussion should include Organic Gardening, Modern Homesteading, Renewable Energy, Do It Yourself Projects, Local Food, Livestock, Natural Building, Green Homes, Natural Health, Green Transportation and Nature & Environment. This Mother Earth News Page works slightly differently than the Facebook personal profiles you may be most familiar with. When anyone makes a post on this Page, Facebook will display it in the box on the right side of the Page called Recent Posts by Others. The best way to see all the posts is to bookmark the Page and visit it from time to time to review the Recent Posts by Others. Editors will monitor these posts and if they meet the guidelines below, we will Share them in the Page's main news feed and they will be relayed to the News Feeds of everyone who has Liked the page. However, depending on how active the Page becomes, we may not be able to Share all posts by others into the main News Feed. MOTHER EARTH NEWS editors will also post links to our online articles and other resources such as our seed company and poultry hatcheries directories, national events calendar, user-generated directories of organic and environmental groups, solar power installers, green businesses and the Modern Homesteading speakers bureau. We have also just begun setting up new Google maps where anyone will be able to mark all kinds of local green resources — farmers markets, sources for organic livestock feed, food coops, U-pick orchards, green/natural builders, seed companies and hatcheries, etc. We will announce these maps on the Page as they go live. We believe the Green Maps will complement the state and provincial pages nicely, making it much easier for you to connect with others on the local level. Please remember — the emphasis in your posts to this Page should be
on Colorado-specific information.

How government can totally screw up your life. Passing a law that egg producers must have free range chickens. No more caged chickens. We need politicians who actually have a brain and can think what a law like this will do to the egg industry. What total idiots they are.

Colorado shoppers on the hunt for eggs are often finding shelves empty or picked over, as both avian flu and a new state law have destabilized grocers’ supply chains. Highly pathogenic avian influenza, a highly-contagious virus that can kill domestic poultry, is the main culprit for the shortage, ...

It has been a real privilege to post topics that I think readers would be interested in on this page. Unfortunately health reasons and severe wind storms that has caused a lot of destruction on our property has brought me to the point that I will have to give this page up.
I appreciate all the positive comments and some not so positive over the years. I have learned much and I hope readers have also learned from the posts.

It's that time of year again! Those pesty bugs are back. Luckily, you can make your own natural insect repellent by diluting essential oils in alcohol, witch hazel, or a gentle vegetable oil, such as almond, sunflower, or jojoba. Different insects are repelled by different ingredients. Here's a quick guide to get you started:
•Cinnamon repels mosquitoes
•Eucalyptus repels mosquitoes, ticks, and lice
•Citronella repels mosquitoes, flies
•Orange repels fleas
•Geranium repels mosquitoes, ticks, and lice

NOTE: If it’s your first time using one of the essential oils listed above, test a small amount of the finished recipe on the back of your hand before applying elsewhere.
