No Ordinary Gamers We work to get more people involved with card and board games! “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. We must play.

No Ordinary Gamers was founded by a couple of guys who liked to play games and found that by demoing them at conventions and events was a great way to meet new people. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors. This

does not mean that we are to be perpetually solemn. But our merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriously - no flippancy, no superiority, no presumption.”

― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

In the beginning, it grew up with a simple love of games. Most of our members grew up playing board games with family, many also play RPG and video games, but ultimately we were brought together by the enjoyment of those games. Building friendships, friendly competition... these are the cornerstone of what I wanted to see when Robert and I created No Ordinary Gamers. Our goal and continuing story: To go to Conventions, events and other such things and try to share as many games, learn as many games and make sure there's a space where people feel welcome to game with us.

Local Friends!
If you want to do something for those on the ground delivering supplies and clearing roads and trails into the storm damages region. This week especially. If you can spare $10 when you go to the store, Buy Hornet and Wasp Killer. One or two cans for that $10. Why is below. But this week anyone who can collect this, or anything else, that goes right to the front lines of this disaster.

I am able to travel to points between Charlotte and Hickory Picking up what you have and take this, or whatever, right to those going out.

Review my latest update:

Status Update 10/5:
Today we delivered our first load to Operation Airdrop's Ground collection and distribution located In Hickory at the Appalachian State's CVCC satellite location on 321 just south of the Hickory Airport.

By Ground Operations I mean those Jeep Clubs and other volunteers who are actually taking the supplies into the Foothills with their Jeeps and 4x4s.

Of the various things being delivered there, one Huge NEED for these people is Hornet and Wasp Spray. The damage to the trees and trees on the roads has caused swarms attacking the ground volunteers. Most of what we brought today was immediately sorted into large trucks for distribution and use locally. And some being sent on west. When I said that I had some Hornet and Wasp Spray, the volunteer immediately yelled for someone who immediately placed this in an outgoing 4x4. For those on the front lines, this is as good as gold. They need as much as they can get into the hands of those front line volunteers. I am going to shop around and see if we can't find some more spray. We cleared out the last at a Walmart. If you know a good resource for Wasp and Hornet Spray, please let me know.

If you are making donations to a specific collection site, I suggest trying to get a list of that they are collecting and donate that there. Some places are refusing store brand water and only taking name brands. I was told that the cheaper bottles are exploding in the Airdrop portion of efforts.

I am not even going to attempt to list everything needed. But as a reminder or do's and don'ts.
Donations should be new, escentials and non perishable. Also, sleeping bags, blankets etc.
Donations should not be used. There are many places to donate used clothes, but most donation centers won't take used clothes, etc. In general Used items are just set aside, or discarded. There was a dumpster full of junk people tried to unload at the collection center.

Greetings fellow gamers!

We've been asked about our schedule this year and our next convention will be Megamoosecon this September.

For those not heading down there, we hope to catch up with you at Mythic in November.

Till then, Keep Calm and Game on!
