State House, MCP Officials, Family and Associates Fleeing Malawi Ahead of Chakwera’s Expected Election Loss
As Malawi approaches the crucial September 16 elections, reports have emerged indicating that senior officials from the State House, top Malawi Congress Party (MCP) figures, their families, and close associates are quietly leaving the country in anticipation of a potential defeat for President Lazarus Chakwera.
Sources reveal that those departing are linked to various clandestine deals and questionable activities that have occurred under MCP’s administration from 2020 to the present. These individuals are reportedly relocating to countries including the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Zambia, the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), and Israel.
A well-coordinated network is allegedly facilitating visa applications and travel logistics for these individuals. It is believed this mass departure is a preemptive move to avoid potential prosecution or legal scrutiny should the Chakwera administration fall.
In connection with these developments, there are reports suggesting that the U.S. Embassy has recently imposed certain restrictions on Malawian nationals seeking to enter the United States—possibly as a response to this surge in high-profile exits.
According to sources, many MCP ministers and top officials have multiple valid visas in their passports, indicating they are prepared to leave the country at short notice. The general sentiment among them appears to be that it will be more difficult to leave Malawi after a possible electoral loss, particularly if legal proceedings begin for alleged crimes committed during their time in office.
This publication can confirm that the fear of post-election accountability is a driving force behind the current exodus of high-ranking officials and their families.
