Today’s episode puts Cole & Charles friendship to the test. JAY-Z’s The Blueprint goes against Beyoncé’s Lemonade as the LSS Boyz continue their journey to crown the Best Album of the 21st Century.

They break down key songs and lyrics, recreate the iconic IZZO beat, and argue until they can agree on a winner.

What album do you think should advance?

Week 1 of Last Song Standing’s journey to crown the best album of the 21st century so far begins with two of the most influential artists of the century: Drake and Kanye West.

Cole & Charles revisit each project’s release, debate their best and worst songs, then put them head to head until they can agree on the better album. The winning project advances to the season finale royal rumble, where the LSS Boyz argue until they can agree on the single best album of the past 25 years: the Last Album Standing.

SEASON FINALE! Our 18 episode breakdown of Mr Morale & The Big Steppers concludes with “Mirror” - an epilogue that reveals the symbolic key to unlocking the album’s mirrored, two disc structure.

Thank you everyone who tuned in all season. Over six months and 100,000 words, this was definitely the most challenging & rewarding season of Dissect I’ve ever made. And I think that’s a reflection of how demanding this album is when you are *really* listening. You can spend your life running from the mirror, judging the flaws of those around you, or you can face it, and find connection in our shared imperfections.

What’s next for Dissect? A new season of Last Song Standing premieres two weeks from today.

Let me know what album you want to hear dissected next season! I’m thinking about doing a handful of one-off episodes focusing on songs and albums that won’t ever get a full season. I’m open to all genres, so drop your suggestions below 👇

“Mother I Sober” is Kendrick Lamar’s most important song - one he said took him 20 years to find. It’s a watershed moment of vulnerability in hip hop, as Kendrick looks at his fractured self in the mirror and attempts to reassemble the pieces.

I hope I did the song justice. Songs like this are why I started Dissect almost 10 years ago, and I believe it’s the most important song I’ve examined in that time.

Part 1 is out now. Part 2 next week.
