Ikoyi $43million: Rivers State Government claims ownership

▪Gives FG seven days ultimatum to return the funds diverted by the immediate past Governor

Rivers State Governor has given the Federal Government an ultimatum of 7 days to return the $43million dollars found in a luxury apartment in Ikoyi to the Rivers State Government , failure which the State Government will take legal measures to ensure that it gets back her stolen resources

Governor Wike also declared that the $43million dollars found in the luxury apartment in Ikoyi belongs to the Rivers State Government.

Governor Wike said that investigations by the Rivers State Government revealed that the money was proceed from the sale of gas turbines by the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: "The money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to confirm that the houses in Ikoyi also belong to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

"If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by Former Governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at $319million.

"That money was used to sponsor the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 general elections. From the date of sale of the gas turbines to May 29, 2015, the money depleted from $319million to $204,000 . What was stashed at the Ikoyi residence was part of that fund".

He said : "We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government. The Federal Government must return our money".

Governor Wike said all the stories being peddled about the money belonging to the National Intelligence Agency are false and mere face saving measures by the embattled APC Federal Government.

He said: "As I speak to you, the Federal Government is so embarrassed that this has happened. All the stories that the money belongs to the NIA are fake".

Governor Wike challenged the Federal Government to set up a panel of Inquiry , which will sit publicly to investigate the money, if it doubted the claim of the Rivers State Government.

He stated that the Rivers State Government needs the money to complete an array of projects, insisting that on no account would this criminal activity be swept under the carpet.

The governor said as long as the Federal Government continues to disturb the progress of Rivers State, so long will God throw the Federal Government into confusion.

"We are giving them seven days to return our money. Otherwise, we would take legal action to recover our money. $43million will help us complete several projects. We need that money for projects", he said.

SOME STEPS SO FAR TAKEN BY GOV. WIKE'S ADMINISTRATION.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has so far taken some steps in ensuring that the State is placed on a smooth pedestal to success.

At his swearing-in on May 29, the Governor promised in his inaugural speech to reopen the State courts that were shut over a year following some political instabilities in the State by appointing an Acting Chief Judge which has been the bone of contention.

Governor Wike, however made good his promise on his first day at work, June 1 by swearing in the National Judicial Commission (NJC) recommended candidate, Justice Daisy Okocha as the Acting Chief Judge. In his bid to strengthen the Judiciary in his tenure, the Governor went further to swear in an Acting President for the Customary Court of Appeal in the person of Justice Christy Gabriel-Nwankwo, a position that has remained vacant following the suspension of the former President, Justice Peter N. C Agumagu by the NJC due to his role in the judicial saga.

Nyesom Wike, eager to ensure all arms of government are independent but corporative, on the same day proclaimed/Inaugurated the eighth Assembly at the State Assembly complex, as against the old order of his predecessor where the Assembly legislated at an auditorium in government house since a free for all fight broke out at the Assembly in July, 2013.

So far, Governor Wike has made few appointments: Kenneth Kobani, a former commissioner for finance, former National Treasure of the defunct ACN and immediate past Minister of State for Trade and Investment was appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG); Engr Emeka Woke, a former Council Chairman of Emohua Local Government, one time DG, CARNIRIV and DG, PDP Secretariat was named Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House; Opunabo Inko-Taria, a published and proprietor of a local tabloid and an astute Social Commentator was appointed Special Assistant on media and publicity; and SA to the Governor on Documentation and two other SAs also appointed for the office of the Deputy Governor.

Meanwhile, not more than Four Commissioner nominees have been screened by the State Assembly.

Also, as part of effort to sanitize the system, the State House of Assembly had on Monday June 8 summoned heads and members of two commissions; The Rivers State Judicial Service Commits (RSJSC) on and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

After hours of interrogation, the House found the RSJSC guilty for allowing its functions to be overtaken by the out gone Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Nworgu Boms. the House equally found the board of RSIEC guilty for not been able to account for all funds the commission had received since 2012 when it came on board, especially the 1.8billion Naira it used in conducting Local Government Polls less than a month ago. The House therefore, passed a resolution empowering the State Governor to dissolve the board of both commissions, a directive the Governor had since complied to.

Another board which has also received the sledge harmer of Governor Wike is the Rivets State Greater Port Harcourt Development Agency whose Sole Administrator, Mrs Alerechi Cookey-Gam was relieved of her appointment for miss-appropriation of funds running into hundreds of billions without feasible achievements.

It was also established that, all contractors with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) were owed four months pay by the last Administration of Chuibike Amaechi. Governor Wike had since appointed the State PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah as the new Sole Administrator with a promise to return Port Harcourt to the lost Garden City Status.

The Wike administration has equally recovered 10 of the vehicles allegedly stolen from Government House by the last administration.
