|| Student Wins Best Opposition Leader Award at National Environment Youth Parliament

Mehvish Khan, a student of the Department of Physical Education, Aligarh Muslim University, represented the university at the National Environment Youth Parliament (NEYP) 2025-26, a prestigious national initiative hosted at A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. The event brought together emerging young voices from across the country to deliberate on pressing environmental challenges.

Acting as the Leader of Opposition, Mehvish meaningfully contributed to debates, policy discussions and structured parliamentary proceedings. Her performance earned her the Best Opposition Leader Award, a distinction that reflects her leadership abilities and brings pride to her family, department and the university community. The recognition also serves as an inspiration for fellow students, underlining the importance of youth engagement in national discourse.

Mehvish qualified for the event after clearing the first round at the university-level parliamentary debate screening organised under the banner of the Zuberi Welfare Society, followed by the state-level round.

अलीगढ़ में ऑनलाइन जुए में रुपये हारने पर बन्नादेवी क्षेत्र में रहने वाले एएमयू के एक छात्र ने अपने दोस्त के साथ खुद के अपहरण का नाटक रच डाला। उसने अपनी बहन के फोन पर उसे गाड़ी में बंधक बनाने का फोटो भेजे।

पुलिस ने लोकेशन के आधार पर छात्र व उसके दोस्त को पकड़ लिया। कई घंटे की पूछताछ के बाद रात में छात्र ने सच बताया। छात्रों के भविष्ट को देखते हुए पुलिस अधिकारियों ने दोनों को उनके परिजनों के सुपुर्द कर दिया। बन्नादेवी थाना क्षेत्र के बरौला बाईपास स्थित कृष्णा नगर निवासी 20 वर्षीय कृष्णा उर्फ डब्बू एएमयू बी-कॉम द्वितीय वर्ष का छात्र है। उसके पिता सत्यवीर सिंह सिंचाई विभाग से सेवानिवृत्त हैं।

सत्यवीर ने दोपहर 02:45 बजे पुलिस को सूचना दी कि उनके बेटे का किसी ने अपहरण कर दिया है। साथ ही आठ लाख रुपये की फिरौती मांगी जा रही है। सूचना मिलते ही एसएसपी नीरज कुमार जादौन ने एसपी सिटी व सीओ द्वितीय के नेतृत्व में टीमों का गठन किया।
छात्र ने पुलिस को घंटों किया गुमराह
बन्नादेवी थाना क्षेत्र में दिनदहाड़े छात्र के अपहरण ने पुलिस के होश उड़ा दिए। एक तरफ सीओ के नेतृत्व में चार टीमों का गठन किया गया तो दूसरी तरफ पुलिस मुख्यालय से भी घटना का अपडेट लिया गया। हालांकि पकड़े जाने के बाद भी छात्र पुलिस को गुमराह करता रहा। पुलिस के सामने बेहोश हो गया। इसके बाद पुलिस उसे निजी अस्पताल में ले गई। मगर डॉक्टरों ने कहा कि छात्र बिल्कुल ठीक है। इसके बाद छात्र ने सच बताया, तब जाकर पुलिस ने राहत की सांस ली।

पुलिस के अनुसार कृष्णा व नितिन पूर्व में गगन पब्लिक स्कूल में पढ़ते थे। छठी कक्षा तक दोनों साथ पढ़े। इसके बाद अलग हो गए। लेकिन, दोस्ती नहीं टूटी। वहीं, कृष्णा कुछ दिन से ऑनलाइन गेम (जुए) में एक लाख रुपये से अधिक हार गया था। वहीं, मई में उसके पिता सेवानिवृत्त हुए हैं। उन्हें रिटायरमेंट में पैसा मिला था। छात्र को पता था कि घर में पैसे हैं। आसानी से मिल जाएंगे। ऐसे में जुए में गंवाई रकम की भरपाई के लिए उसने अपने ही अपहरण की योजना बनाई। इसमें अपने दोस्त नवीन को शामिल कर लिया। योजना के तहत कृष्णा सुबह घर से निकल गया। दोपहर में उसने अपनी बहन के फोन पर फोटो भेजकर अपहरण का मैसेज किया। इसके बाद पुलिस सक्रिय हुई।

सुबह घर पर आया था दोस्त नवीन
परिजनों से पूछताछ में पता चला कि नवीन घटना से पहले सुबह कृष्णा के घर आया था। वहीं, कृष्णा द्वारा बताए गए अपहरण के स्थान के पास एक दुकानदार ने बताया कि कृष्णा एक दाढ़ी वाले लड़के के साथ स्कूटी पर गया है, जो नवीन था। इस आधार पर पुलिस ने नवीन को पकड़ा।

AMU Research Scholar Presents Paper at Western Conference on Linguistics 2025

ALIGARH, November 24: Miss Uzma Afreen, a PhD research scholar in the Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University, presented her research at the Western Conference on Linguistics (WECOL) 2025, hosted online this year from Budapest, Europe. She is working under the supervision of Prof M.J. Warsi.

Ms Afreen delivered a paper titled “Language and Pedagogical Strategies in Developing Critical Thinking Skills: A Systematic Review (2015–2025)”, in which she examined the mediating role of language and the effectiveness of pedagogical strategies in strengthening students’ critical thinking abilities. Her study systematically reviewed a decade of empirical research to outline key trends, instructional models and gaps in contemporary scholarship.

The paper highlighted how strategic language use and thoughtfully designed teaching approaches can enhance critical thinking across diverse learning environments, offering valuable insights for educators and researchers. This paper is to be published in the upcoming proceedings of the conference by the state California
