Sea Hunter Kayaks
A professional guide friend of mine (Mark Mykytyn) has two Sea Hunter kayaks he wants to sell (reluctantly). These are not recreational kayaks but are serious touring boats, good for fast passages and multi-day trips. One is in nearly new condition; the other, a veteran of many trips, is seaworthy but in need of some TLC.
Dimensions: Both kayaks are 18' long, with a beam of 23". The two hatches are made by Valley and are 7 1/4" inside and 8" outside. The cockpit openings are 14 1/2" across, with the seat being 16". There is a neoprene spray deck that will go with the yellow boat. There is a large storage area behind the seat back. While many think the Hatches are small, Mark reports, “I've never had a problem with them. I just put a dry bag in first, then put my gear in the bag and turn the bag sideways. I've packed enough gear, food, and water to last two weeks in Everglades National Park.”
The older blue boat is seaworthy and paddles well, but at this point, it is a “fixer-upper.” It has a couple of repairs, one in the bow and one on the right side. Both repairs are watertight. They are just not pretty. The deck is weathered and needs polishing, and the repairs to the bow and side, while watertight, could be made to look pretty with a good coat of fiberglass paint. The bungee cord and deck lines need to be replaced.
The newer yellow boat is in great shape, though its deck lines may need refreshing, too. Both boats are British-made and, given their 18-foot waterline and narrow beam, designed to go straight and fast. Mark would like to get $1,600 for the yellow boat; “I only paddled it a few times, and it is in mint condition.
Old blue is weathered and trip-worn but it is watertight and will go for years. I'd like to get $800 for her. I can throw in a paddle and have a few more to sell as well.”
Mark and the boats are located in Deerfield Beach, Florida. You can direct inquiries to me, or you can call or text Mark directly at 914-467-0122.
