I've been an advocate of roundabouts for years. One of my major disappointments was not being able to talk council into a roundabout at Chambersburg and Bellefontaine.

Carmel, Indiana has taken a bold and forward-thinking approach to urban planning by replacing almost all of its traffic lights with roundabouts—over 120 since 1996. This move has had a dramatic impact on road safety, leading to an estimated 40% drop in overall accidents and an astounding 90% reduction in fatal crashes. By removing stop-and-go signals and encouraging continuous movement, roundabouts have proven to be not only safer but more efficient.

Beyond improving safety, the benefits extend into cost savings and environmental impact. Each roundabout saves the city an average of $180,000 in long-term maintenance compared to traditional intersections. They also cut down on fuel consumption—saving around 24,000 gallons per roundabout annually—thanks to reduced idling and smoother traffic flow. Fewer stops mean fewer emissions, making Carmel’s streets cleaner and more sustainable.

This real-world success story shows how smart infrastructure can make a lasting difference—saving lives, lowering costs, and reducing our environmental footprint. Sometimes the simplest solutions, like going in circles, can move us all forward.

I wonder if the Mayor protection amendment will pass today.

Remember If you don’t vote no on Issue 10 but wanted your Ward 1, 2 and 6 representative to run for Mayor, you would be forced to have unelected representation on council for more than 2 years, while the Mayor would not have to resign and would be able to campaign from the dais the whole election.

Vote No on all City Charter Amendments: Issues 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

The Annexation Town Hall was held last night. It is item twelve in the post below.

I have yet to watch it. Though I was tempted to go. I had listened to the last work session that included the due diligence report. There were many items in that presentation that did not appear to make sense while listening. This caused me to download the actual report. However, I did not get very far in reviewing that actual report. If I had been prepared to talk from a comprehensive state of knowledge I would have gone. I wasn't going over there though with half information just to be frustrated hearing more stuff that didn't make sense but without good questions to help clarify.

I do have to say that I am 100% pleased that council had staff publish the due diligence report. With that information, we / I could go in with intelligent questions and hope to get intelligent answers. I just didn't make the time to do that before the town hall tonight.

Hopefully, when I get to listen to it on my drives to and from work, Many of the things that didn't make sense in the due diligence presentation will be cleared up in this meeting.

It is item twelve, if you want to watch the recording.
