🌾 As Zimbabwean farmers continue to produce surpluses of maize, sorghum, millets, and wheat, the need for high-quality, affordable storage solutions has never been more crucial. Proper storage that is easy to maintain helps preserve grain quality from harvest to sale, ensuring food security across the nation.
For over 50 years, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has operated silo complexes across Mashonaland, many dating back to colonial times. While these silos have served us well, they can be challenging to maintain, and assessing the quality of stored grain remains a concern.
With Zimbabwe largely self-sufficient in grains, much of our harvest is stored for up to a year—covering the gap between planting and the next harvest. As reserves grow, so does the need for storage solutions that maintain high quality over longer periods.
Last year's severe drought tested our resilience, but thanks to well-stocked GMB reserves and organized imports by the private sector, we managed to support families and keep food supplies stable. This highlights the urgent need to invest in modern, efficient storage infrastructure to safeguard our future food security.
