Something is changing in the approach to basic education in Edo State. Kudos to the new EDO SUBEB Chairman.
As September 14 school resumption draws closer, the Executive Chairman of Edo SUBEB, Hon. Ambrose Ayewoh Oyakhilome, is taking the message of education beyond the office and into the streets, leading staff and management in a back-to-school sensitisation campaign across strategic areas of the state capital.
I strongly commend Hon. Oyakhilome for a leadership style built on experience, competence, vision and purposeful engagement. Personally joining the sensitisation campaign is a demonstration that effective leadership is not only about sitting behind a desk but also about stepping out to connect with the people and understand the realities affecting them.
SUBEB must be more than contracts, employment, promotions and administrative meetings. At its heart is the Edo child, the child who deserves a classroom, a teacher, an opportunity and a future.
Your back-to-school campaign initiative is more than an event. It is a call to parents and communities. send your children back to school. Their future matters.
This initiative will directly increase student enrolment, encourage school attendance and contribute to reducing the number of out-of-school children across Edo State. When government takes education advocacy directly to the people, it creates awareness, inspires participation and reminds parents that education remains one of the greatest investments they can make in the lives of their children.
What makes Hon. Oyakhilome's approach particularly commendable is his willingness to lead from the front and not just sitting in his office. His vision is also in line with the SHINE Agenda of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration, particularly the administration's commitment to improving the lives of Edo people and strengthening critical sectors such as education.
However, there is still much work ahead, and the real test will be whether this renewed energy translates into sustained improvements in enrolment, teaching quality, infrastructure, learning outcomes and retention. But this your early direction is encouraging.
Education cannot be transformed from behind a desk alone.
When leadership steps into the streets, communities are reached.
When communities are reached, parents are reminded.
When parents respond, children return to school.
And when children return to school, the future of Edo becomes brighter.
As the campaign message rightly says:
“IN EDO STATE, EVERY CHILD MATTERS.”
The journey towards a stronger basic education system may be long, but with competent leadership, innovative ideas and purposeful action of Hon Ambrose Ayewoh Oyakhilome, a new chapter of hope can be written for every Edo child.
Hon. Ambrose Ayewoh Oyakhilome is showing that with experience, competence and commitment, leadership can make a difference.
