"Populism: The political doctrine that supports the rights and powers of the common people in their struggle with the privileged elite." Oklahoma is the bedrock of oppression in the United States. We have natural disasters that are caused by corporate greed and neglect. We have the second highest incarceration rate in a nation that holds a quarter of the world's prisoners. Our jail cells have beco

me subhuman storage for the mentally ill, our most vulnerable citizens. We are hurling headfirst into the destruction and privatization of prisons, education, mental health, drug treatment, and anything else from which corporations can profit. Therefore, we must be the front lines of the revolution. Red State Revolt is not just a radio show -- it is an organizational tool for the resistance. We will illuminate the corruption and then through direct action seek to expose it and take this state back to its populist roots. Join Mark Faulk every week to find out what you can do to resist.

A couple of points about bail reform:

In states like Illinois and New Jersey that have reduced cash bail requirements and have implemented bail reform, there has not been an increase in failures to appear, and in fact in some cases it increases the likelihood of defendants making court dates. The deterrent is the penalty or potential jail sentence they might receive if they don’t appear in court.

It’s also been shown that a simple text messaging reminder system about scheduled court appearances (just like doctors, dentists, etc. do now) increases the likelihood of defendants appearing in court. Finally, not keeping people in jail, especially the deadliest jail in America, is safer, less costly to taxpayers, and reduces lost jobs and disrupted lives, which reduces recidivism and makes us all safer.

It’s past time to end cash bail for good.
