You know you should be doing this.

You’ve seen them get the speaking spot, watched someone else land the press feature, noticed the podcast invitations going to people who aren’t more experienced than you.

And every time it happens, you tell yourself you’ll do it next time. You’ll pitch when you’re less busy. When you’ve got the messaging nailed. When you feel more ready.

But here’s what’s actually happening. You’re not avoiding PR because you don’t have time. You’re avoiding it because putting yourself forward, claiming the space, saying “I deserve to be on that stage” feels uncomfortable.

It contradicts the version of yourself you’ve built around being modest, supportive, not too much.

This is what happens when you Get Known for what you do.

Last week, one of my 1-2-1 accelerator clients met a journalist face-to-face. Without me. For a proper conversation about a really meaty piece of thought leadership we’ve been working on together on for a few months.

The journalist said yes because she already knew who my client was. And the conversation is an important one that’s not being discussed at the moment.

The authority ecosystem we’ve been building did the work before the pitch ever landed.

This isn’t visibility. This is authority.

You can post three times a week for two years and still not get the speaking requests, the podcast bookings, the press opportunities you should be getting. (Those ones that your competitors are getting that make you fume slightly 😜)

Showing up on your stories and having fancy headshots won’t build trust and credibility for you. It’s important, but it’s not the last stop.

The founders who know that are thriving. They’re not relying on an algorithm to build their business.

They’re getting asked to speak instead of pitching themselves into opportunities that ghost them.

They’re being recommended by people who’ve never worked with them.

They’re arriving on discovery calls with buyers who’ve already decided.

There’s a version of your business you haven’t let yourself want yet.

The one where opportunities come to you. The one where your authority does the selling before you open your mouth.

If you’re not letting your ideal clients, those dreamy people you want to work with really get to the bones of what you do, why you do it and even how you do it, it’s highly likely you’re “leaving money on the table” as those gurus say.

I’ve just made my next business move and it was listening to her on two podcasts that pushed me over the line.

You need to be building an authority eco-system that helps your potential customers and clients move more quickly. 8 second reels aren’t going to cut it.
