Update from Walk for Peace! The Buddhist Monks will enter North Carolina today (Jan. 14) and will be in Charlotte overnight. Then they will head north toward Greensboro and then the Triangle. They are scheduled to be in Raleigh on Saturday, January 24 (but that's just an estimate.)
Things to know:
✅ The venues and times has not been officially announced. They have stated that they plan to visit the state capitols, so you can expect that, but there could be other stops in the area as well.
✅ Every night you can see the route and the stops for the next day at Walk for Peace. We are updating our page as well, from that information, but remember -- The Walk for Peace Facebook and maps are the official source, aways.
✅ There will be stops along the way between now and the 24th.
✅ The date can change due to weather or other logistics.
✅ Follow Walk for Peace for updates. Anyone else who claims to be an official source is not. (Including us! We are merely sharing information from the official source.)
✅ They have an Overview Map and a Live Map that they update regularly.
✅ When the walk gets closer, make sure to follow local law enforcement and municipalities' social media accounts for any road closures or other logistical information.
✅ Please learn about the goal of the walk, the etiquette at public events, and ways to support them, in the link below.
✅ The public gatherings, which take place at their overnight resting spots, and sometimes their lunch spot, are meant to be respectful, meditative events. Please stay quiet. Don't touch the monks. Similarly, if you see them on their walk, please don't block their path or interfere.
✅ The group is NOT selling anything. So if you see people selling merchandise, please know it's not from the monks and is not authorized by them.
✅ The walk is 120 days and 2,300 miles, from Fort Worth, TX, to Washington, DC.
✅ Aloka, the dog, is getting appropriate medical care along the way, and is being checked by veterinarians. He's not walking all the time. He's spending much time in the support vehicle, especially since he received surgery on one of his legs on Jan. 12.
