A little over a year ago a team from the New England Sports Network (NESN) visited Sacred Heart
University with an opportunity for select film makers at the University. Kieran was lucky enough
to be one of those film makers. The project that NESN pitched that day was a new television
show that was in the process of being created. The show was essentially a film contest for
aspiring collegiate f
ilm makers to showcase a 6 and a half minute sports documentary. The
television show that was to follow the completion of the documentaries has been widely
anticipated on the national level. In early March, while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Kieran McGirl received word that his film “The Rise of Johnny Hockey” had been selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the competition. This meant that Kieran’s film was going to air on the groundbreaking new television show. The format of the show is basically the idea of Shark Tank meets
America’s Got Talent. Produced as a 7-episode weekly series showcases each students short
sports films with the hope of winning $20,000 and a job opportunity at the network. Each episode will introduce two students and their film, along with the process the production of each short went through. Kieran decided to produce his short on NHL Rookie All Star Sensation Johnny Gaudreau (Johnny Hockey) and his film tells the story of Johnny’s unlikely journey to NHL Stardom. The film can be voted as many times as you see fit and the television Program premieres April 6th on NESN
