BREAKING THE TWO-HEADED TRAP: What the Filipino People Should Do When BBM and Sara are Poor Choices

Kung parehong bulok ang ulam sa karinderya,
HINDI KA PIPILI. MAGREREKLAMO KA.
At hihingi ka ng bagong cook, bagong menu, at bagong health inspection.

Ganoon din sa politika.

The worst mistake we can make is to accept the false idea that our only options are BBM (incompetence) or Sara (impunity).

Their dynasties WANT you to believe those are the only two choices -
because that removes your power.

But here’s what the Filipino people can and must do:

I. DECLARE A PUBLIC REJECTION OF THE FALSE CHOICE

Stop agreeing to their narrative that it’s “BBM or Sara.”
Say it clearly:

**“Hindi ako Pro-BBM. Hindi ako Pro-Sara.
Pro-Pilipinas ako.”**

Call out the illusion.
Expose the manipulation.
Break their psychological trap.

This alone already weakens their machinery
because their power comes from people believing
they’re the only options.

II. DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR BOTH - SABAY.

Walang sacred cow. Walang “lesser evil.”

✔ Investigate the 100B insertions (BBM-Romualdez)

✔ Investigate the 612.5M confidential funds (Sara)

✔ Demand answers for flood-control mafia

✔ Demand answers for DepEd anomalies

✔ Demand investigations from ICI, Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, DOJ, Ombudsman, Sandiganbayan

When BOTH are under scrutiny, both dynasties weaken.
When BOTH are questioned, BOTH lose the moral high ground.

The public must make it clear:
“Hindi kami papayag na may tatakas.”

III. The Safest, Most Constitutional Path Forward

Maraming nagsasabing “patalsikin,” “mag-resign,” or “ipa-takeover kay Sara.”
Pero ito ang totoo:

**The safest, calmest, most stable path is this:

Let BBM finish his term - while pushing for full investigations and the imprisonment of ALL guilty officials.**

Why?

Because:

✔ It avoids chaos

✔ It prevents Sara from automatically taking power

✔ It maintains stability during investigations

✔ It gives institutions room to work

✔ It ensures impeachment, prosecution, and penalties continue after his term

We don’t rush justice -
we strengthen the rule of law until it bites.

Let the term finish,
but make sure the accountability doesn’t stop.

BBM finishing his term ≠ BBM escaping consequences.
It simply means:

**No power vacuum.

No dynastic replacement.
No chaos Sara can exploit.**

At the end of the term,
those guilty must face prison - whoever they are, whatever their alliance.

IV. Block Dynastic Manipulation and Sara’s Automatic Succession

This is important:

When BBM leaves early,
Sara becomes President.

And that is exactly what her bloc wants.
Chaos is their oxygen.

Letting the term complete BLOCKS this dynastic shortcut and preserves the constitutional order.

V. Prepare the Ground for 2028 - A Non-Dynastic Future

Habang tumatakbo pa ang natitirang termino:

✔ Build up clean, competent, non-dynastic leaders

✔ Unite civil society, academe, youth, private sector

✔ Demand transparency reforms

✔ Strengthen oversight institutions

The 2028 election must not be another Marcos vs Duterte sequel.

Justice does not expire at the end of a presidential term.

If evidence proves:
• plunder
• bribery

Then prosecution must follow.
Then imprisonment must follow.

This applies to BBM.

This should not be a slogan.
It should be a system.

The movement must be clear:

We are not loyal to the Marcoses.
We are not loyal to the Dutertes.

and build institutional leadership instead of dynastic rule.

1. Let BBM finish his term.

4. Destroy the BBM-Sara false binary.

5. Prepare a clean, competent, non-dynastic leader for 2028.

This is how a democracy matures.
This is how a nation heals.
This is how Filipinos finally break the two-headed trap.

Not Marcos.
Not Duterte.

When duty calls — a defining contrast in leadership

In recent weeks, as Typhoon Tino and then Super Typhoon Uwan bore down on the Philippines, the difference between tokens of leadership and the real presence of one has never been sharper. At one end of the spectrum was Leni Robredo — foregoing a high-profile invitation to New York, cutting short an international sojourn, and choosing instead to stay in her region and help personally in the field. At the other end were a number of local officials who, despite clear typhoon forecasts and disaster signals, opted for foreign trips — some already granted foreign travel authority — leaving constituents waiting for them.

Foregoing prestige for presence

Robredo’s decision is striking because the event she forewent was no small matter: a trip to New York at the invitation of the Clinton Global Initiative, an affair of global reputation and personal prestige. But she put it aside. According to reporting, she did not depart for the US when a typhoon was forecast to hit the Bicol region — “I was supposed to leave early in the morning to New York … because of the typhoon … I decided to cancel my trip late last night.”

Instead of boarding a plane to New York, Robredo stayed in her city — meeting with visiting diplomats, inspecting vulnerable drainage and waterways, coordinating local disaster-risk offices — because she recognised that no matter how important an international event may be, it is never more important than the lives and welfare of the people she serves.

Others chose differently

Contrast that with the actions of several mayors from the 5th District of Cebu Province. In the run-up to Typhoon Tino, records show that at least eight local officials filed for foreign travel authority (FTA) to travel abroad — with some approvals granted.

After the typhoon’s impact was felt, complaints and investigations followed: a criminal/administrative complaint was filed against seven Cebu politicians for travelling abroad while their constituencies were under calamity.

Further, in northern Luzon, Rodolfo “Rodito” Albano III, governor of Isabela Province, defended his trip to Germany while Super Typhoon Uwan struck his province — saying the preparations had been completed and his visit was for an agricultural fair. The national Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is now reviewing this departure.

What this tells us about true leadership

1. Prioritising people over prestige. Robredo’s choice to withdraw from an international event—one many might view as a career highlight—was not a symbolic gesture alone. It sent a message: when your people are at risk, you show up.

2. Being physically present matters. During the typhoon alert, Robredo did not delegate entirely from afar; she made visible appearances — welcoming ambassadors, meeting with disaster offices, acknowledging infrastructure vulnerabilities in her city’s drainage and water-ways. In contrast, when officials depart while warnings are up, the optics are stark — absence when presence is most required.

3. No event on foreign soil should ever out-rank the lives of constituents. A prestige-laden foreign trip may reflect personal ambition or institutional prestige, but it cannot offset the fundamental duty of disaster-preparedness leadership. The approvals granted to the Cebu mayors and the timing of their departures raise serious questions about accountability.

4. Accountability exists. The investigations in Cebu and by DILG into Isabela’s governor underscore that public service demands scrutiny and evidence of presence and action.

Why Robredo’s stance resonates

In a time when many officials are judged by sound-bites or photo-ops, Robredo’s decision stands out because it aligns her action with the moral responsibility of service. She could have attended a global forum, met influential figures, gained international recognition — and yet she chose the muddy back-roads, the public shelters, the local disaster response centre. That choice speaks volumes.

For many Filipinos anxious about floods, power cuts, evacuation orders, the sight of a leader on the ground creates trust. It says: I’m here with you. The symbolism of presence matters — but so does the tangible act of being there.

A call to service

Public office demands that when the storm-signal is raised, you do not board a plane to acclaim; you board a vehicle to evacuate citizens, inspect shelters, coordinate relief. The Philippines is no stranger to calamities. Leaders who recognise this, whose first question is Where are the people?, How do we help them now?, rather than What seat will I take next?, are the leaders we need.

Robredo’s example is not a virtue signalling of perfection — nobody is above the learning curve — but the clear articulation of priority: constituents over conferences, homes over Heathrow, lives over limelight. That is what sets her apart in this contrasting moment of leadership.

The choice is simple — and indispensable: when your people risk everything, your first duty is to stay.

Ipinaglaban ng magagaling at matitinong namumuno, mga disenting Hapon ang nagpondo, at magagaling at matitinong Koreano ang nagdisenyo at bumuo. 👍

Limang bilyon ang halaga ng proyektong ito sa Ilo Ilo. 👍

Ipinaglaban ng mga kurakot at gahamang namumuno, pera ng taumbayan ang nagpondo, at mga mandarayang contractor na Pilipino ang gumawa at bumuo. 🙄

Limampung bilyon ang halaga ng proyektong ito sa Cebu. 🙄

Alam niyo na siguro kung saan patungo ang kuwento kong ito. 🤔

At ito ang matagal ko nang pinupunto. Lahat ay nagsisimula sa magaling at matinong pamumuno. 👍

Dahil ang mga lindol at bagyo ay bahagi na ng buhay ng bawat Pilipino. Wala na tayong magagagawa dito, at darating at darating saatin ang mga ito. 🤔

Ngunit nasa kamay natin ang pagpili ng mga tamang namumuno. At ito ang susi upang mabuhay tayo ng maunlad at mapayapa, kahit gaano pa karami ang bumibisita sa ating bagyo. 👍

Kaya former Mayor Jerry Treñas, former Senator Franklin Drilon, at late former Congressman Raul Gonzales, maraming maraming salamat po sa pagmamahal at sa pag aaruga ninyo sa Ilo Ilo. 🫡
