Today marks the release of blue bird rain cloud, the new EP from dog eyes. The Oakland lo-fi folk duo of Hailey Firstman & Davis Leach made their Grand Jury debut last year on the tranquil yet scrappy Holy Friend. Here, they open the aperture up thematically and ground the sonics in even more organic instrumentation and Americana ephemera. The results are really rewarding. The EP is available on limited edition cassette in the bio & the band plays a sold out release show next week in Oakland at Ramsess Art Garden.

There's only one more month to wait for Bloodless, the daring new album from SAMIA. We've already heard previews in the form of “Bovine Excision” and “Lizard,” and today she shares two more tracks off of the forthcoming album. “Hole in a Frame,” inspired by Sid Vicious punching a wall at Cain’s Ballroom in 1978 and the 7-minute stunner “Pants” are both out today alongside visualizers by Sarah Ritter, with the “Pants” video starring actor Fred Hechinger, who you may know from White Lotus, Nickel Boys, and Gladiator II.

“I paired these tracks because they capture opposite instincts," says Samia. "‘Hole in a Frame’ is about a fascination with disappearing and the power of absence. ‘Pants’ is about accepting a non-refundable self, social contexts and all. They move from a comfort in the possibilities of emptiness to the reality of existence.”

The second single from Bloodless is everywhere today.

"Lizard" turns the faders up, finds a blinding-bright melody and chases it through a party until the place is a wreck. "It’s painful to stay present, to exist as a real, flesh-and-blood person at a party," says SAMIA, "after existing comfortably as a myth or a memory. And it was even more painful to try not to ruin a party I’d already ruined.”

The single also heralds an upcoming US tour in support of the new record. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am local.

SAMIA's daring new album, Bloodless, is set for release April 25th.

"It’s easier to be what someone wants you to be if you give as little as possible,” says Samia. With Bloodless, she seeks comfort in absence, and explores the allure of existing as fantasy. Across its thirteen songs, the album casts a looming shadow -- one that will only get bigger from today.

Third single in our 10th Anniversary Covers Project comes from downtempo electronic duo Haulm. Their pair of Grand Jury EPs, Posture & Stay For Me, were late 2010s downtempo staples. Here they take on the shimmering lite psych of TV Girl & ’s Summers Over title track from their 2021 collaborative EP.
