Pessimistic opinion about what ‘we’ are. The irony is, they’re accidentally validating NDE experiences by saying we are not the body.
We don’t even know what consciousness is. To claim ‘we are not energy’ is wiiiild, because this insinuates that we are not our body, which is the entire debate to begin with. The theory is that ‘we’ are here controlling this meatsuit, but ‘we’ are not the meatsuit, potentially resonating somewhere betond physical reality.
To each their own. I myself wouldn’t be so adamant about the soul if I had not had multiple, profoundly-spiritual OOB-experiences during my atheism phase in my teenage years. Which leveled my own concept of what energy is, what a person is, and ultimately what reality is.
The reason folks that have NDE’s and OOB’s are so passionate about the soul, many of which shared an atheistic view originally, is because once you leave your body and experience yourself OUTSIDE of your ‘self’, you cannot for the life of you go back to thinking we are simply just a person, and that there is much more going on here.
