Gratitude is a choice, not a feeling! Our August Growth Spurt article "Gratitude" gives age-appropriate ways you can foster an attitude of gratitude in your children. For example:

With your silly preschooler, make up gratitude phrases. This helps him learn the word as well as how to live it.

⭐ "Gratitude takes away my greed-itude."
⭐ "Gratitude means I thank you, hug you, play with you."
⭐ "Gratitude is jumping in excitement for what I have rather than stomping my foot for one more."

Check out the Growth Spurt article for gratitude tips for 0 to 1 years, 1 to 2 years, 3 to 5 years, 6 to 8 years, and 9 to 12 years!

Modern life has wandered away from the table. We eat in the car, on the recliner, at our office desk, or on the run, but whatever happened to the simplicity of gathering around the table? We gave a whole constellation of reasons to forgo the table. But should we? Perhaps coming to the table is a discipline every bit as sacred as prayer, worship, and Bible study. Take some time this month to read Tammy Darling's article "Come to the Table," as it explores the importance of where and what you eat!

In our August issue of ParentLife, Shelly Wyrick explores the benefits of creating together. Her family does art as a family because they can do it side by side, ages 9 to 47! Sitting together, everyone has their own project from lettering to coloring, cartooning to watercolor, they are all involved in their work and engaged with each other. It's an easy win. The practice of art at home brings a family close and fosters appreciation, endurance, and presence.

If this intrigues you, don't miss Shelly's article "Art Matters" to learn more about the benefits and some creative ways to put it into practice.

One simple (but powerful) back-to-school tradition your family may want to embrace is the "Backpack Blessing" - a moment to lay hands on your child's backpack and cover the upcoming school year in prayer. It's a tangible, meaningful way to invite God into your child's learning, friendships, challenges, and growth.

To find out why it matters and for tips to create this meaningful moment, check out Nancy Cornwell's article "Praying Over the Backpack" in our August issue of ParentLife.

Parenting is hard! Rewarding, yes. But hard. It is humility that will enable us to parent well. When we know our place, we rely more on God than ourselves -- precisely what we need for parenting.

For some guidance on how to parent with humility, check out Tammy Darling's June article "Parenting with Humility."

It's summertime! But it's too hot, sticky, and humid outside. So how do you have fun and beat the heat?

Instead of Hot Potato, play Cold Potato. Fill a balloon up with water, and poke one tiny hole in the balloon. Gather the kids in a circle and toss the leaky balloon from one to another before it runs out of water. Everyone gets sprayed and cooled off during the game!

For more ideas, don't miss "Beat the Heat" by Christi McGuire in our July issue of ParentLife.
