The sunlight shines through the stain glass windows on the opposite side of the church, causing a multi-colored patchwork display on the crucifix. On the wall, the colors still form a patchwork, but the shadow of the crucifix stands out. An interesting metaphor for life as a Christian. The world might try to put it’s own color on the story of Jesus’ sacrifice. An atheist might say it’s a nice-sounding fairy tale some people tell themselves. A Muslim might say it wasn’t actually Jesus. Someone else might say it was a tragedy that such a wise spiritual teacher (so not the Son of God) was killed.
it is the wall that presents the reality of the Christ’s crucifixion. It was glorious, but it wasn’t pleasant or colorful, by any means. The truth stands as a stark brutal contrast to what the world might say or want to think. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is true man and true God. He is the Savior of the world who established one Church, whose members still proclaim roughly 2000 years later the real story of Jesus Christ who suffered, died, and resurrected, all for you. All for you.
