A few pics under the hood of the IGS V8 diode bridge compressor. Lots of horsepower, current, and 6 custom UTC transformers for a thicker, richer, more expensive sound. There's a reason that analog sounds different from plugins. Treat yourself dont cheat yourself. Lol.

Releasing your project on vinyl is exciting and expensive. Its also important to understand that mastering for vinyl (i.e. pre-vinyl mastering) is not the same process as mastering for digital/streaming. There are different frequency and formating considerations that can effect the sound quality. So whether its me doing the pre-vinyl mastering or another mastering engineer you trust, just make sure to get it done right...and make sure to overstand the process.

THE PROCESS

Getting your project on vinyl is basically a three-part process: (1) getting a cutting engineer to cut the lacquer master, (2) making the mother stamp (which is used for pressing the vinyl), and (3) the actual manufacturing process (i.e. pressing vinyl). Lots of artists look for the cheapest "one-stop-shop" manufacturer that does all three of these things. However, that's generally not the best way to go about it because most pressing plants are all about cutting costs. And to do this, they either use "in house" cutting engineers (who are often subpar and don't take the time to get your cut right) or they outsource the cutting to some other cheap facility.

💢Neve MBP

Just put ithe MBP through the paces last night on a couple test masters. First impressions? Definitely a quality piece of gear highly versatile finishing tool. The only other box I've had with comparable features is the Bettermaker Limiter.

Stereo Field Editor (SFE). Super useful and doesn't sound phasey or over-processed (even when pushed hard) but just a little goes a long.

Silk. Very useful for adding a little something thats missing. Red can really help add harmonic energy to the midd/highs. Blue can calm things down in the 2-5khz range and add subtle low end bump.

VCA Compresor and limiter. Cean and transparent. Nice having both and nice having a VCA with this many options (Ff/FB, peak/RMS, SCF, Mix). Limiter is surprisingly good when needed, and also functions as a soft clipper at high threshold settings.

Gain is class A so super clean amplification. So far it feels like a very useful and versatile addition to the mastering chain that gives me a few new analog tools i didn't have. Only con for me thus far is that I wish the metering was more useful for mastering (since im never doing more than 1-2dB of GR)...but I can live with it.
